At WODIL 2026, Cecily Welch, CPA, CFP®, PFS delivered a powerful masterclass on the hidden engine of wealth disparity: the tax code.

Drawing a sharp parallel to artificial intelligence, Cecily exposed how "neutral" algorithms and "neutral" tax policies both do the exact same thing, encode historical bias and repeat it at scale. Saying "the tax code is neutral" offers the same false comfort as saying "the algorithm decided."
