Heritage Seniors Edmonton The Heritage Senior Stop-In Centre is a non-profit community organization for seniors.

Dedicated to serving and supporting seniors for more than two decades, the Centre invites you to join us for:

October 2026 Newsletter

Dear Members,
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. October brings cooler days, colorful leaves and the cozy feeling of autumn settling in. It’s a wonderful time to enjoy seasonal activities, connect with friends and family, and prepare for the winter months ahead.
Our summer barbecue and Volunteer Appreciation lunch went well. We had 58 members attending and all of us had a blast. Burgers and salads were great. Thanks to Pam and Phil for organizing this event. Thank you to all our volunteers who helped through the year, we really appreciate you all, without you our centre will not be able to function.

Our thanks to Nina Khehra for donation of $100.00 in memory of her mom Surinder Khehra.

Here are the programs planned for October at Heritage Senior Stop-In Centre.

October 6th Tuesday 12 to 1 PM: Prairie Home Care Presentation about Fraud Prevention and Low-Income Seniors benefits. During any presentation, there would be no card games, it’s a distraction to the presentation.

October 12th Monday: Happy Thanksgiving Day to all our members and our Centre will be open as normal.

October 13rh Tuesday 12 to 1PM: Talk by Irene Meyer regarding Estate Planning, Estate Taxes and Kids' Assumptions.

October 13th Tuesday 1PM to 2PM: Board of Directors Monthly Meeting.

October 21st Wednesday: River Cree casino trip and the bus picks up at 11AM sharp. Please come to the centre to add your name (only your name) to the list. No phone calls or text messages or emails please. Please remember that this is a privilege only to current members who renewed their membership. Coupons will only be given to those whose names are in the casino list. Those who are driving there, collect your coupons at 12 at the coffee place at the casino, if you are not there by noon, no coupons.

October 23rd Friday 12.30 PM to 3.30 PM: Let’s celebrate Thanksgiving Day lunch with Turkey at our centre. Turkeys will be provided by Marion and Tom. Please bring the trimmings like fresh vegetables, mashed potatoes, beans, carrots, broccoli, Brussels Sprouts etc. Please bring a dish (or dessert) to share with 10 people or more. Cards will only be played after the centre is cleaned. Please help to clean up, many hands make light work. Please remember that no eating while playing, or else pay $5.00.

October 27th Tuesday 12 to 1 PM: Aspen Pharmacy would like to set up Flu Clinic and Covid shots, Pneumonia shots, RSV or Tetanus shots. Please note that only 2 Vaccines can be administered at the same time. Please do write your names in the sign-up sheet at the front desk. The pharmacist will only come if there are 20 or more vaccine receivers.

Our Centre is for rent for any functions, big or small. The charges are $ 75.00 for 4 hours and $150.00 for the entire day. Cleaning deposit of $100.00 is needed and it will be adjusted based on the cleanup done by the people who got it for rental.

Dear Members,
July is a warm summer month filled with sunshine, blooming gardens and opportunities to enjoy nature with family and friends. It is wonderful time for seniors to stay active, celebrate together, and create happy memories while staying cool and hydrated.

Here are the programs planned for July at Heritage Senior Stop-In Centre.

July 1st, 2026, Wednesday: CANADA DAY. Our centre is open.

July 7th, 2026, Tuesday 12 to 1PM : Presentation by Ankit Anand from Sterling Health, talking about health care services.

July 14th, 2026, Tuesday 12 to 1PM : Presentation by Irene Meyer from Churchill Manor, talking about your financial situation. Please note that there will be no cards playing as it is a distraction to the speaker. Cards can be played after the presentation.
July 14th, 2026, Tuesday 1PM to 2PM: Board of Directors meeting.

July 20th, 2026, Wednesday 11AM to 5PM: Our centre is planning to go on a day trip to Horse Hills Berry Farm by school bus with a capacity of 40 seats. We are enquiring about the details and will let you know about the updates. Please wait for our next email.

July 21st, 2026, 12 to 1PM 12 to 1.30PM : Lunch and Tour at CHARTWELL SENIOR LIVING to the members who think they will be leaving their home to live there. The address is 944 James Mowat Trail S.W Edmonton AB. If you want to attend, you need to sign your name at the front desk at our Centre. You need to get there with your own transport. Contact Pam for more details.

July 23rd, 2026, Thursday 11AM to 4PM : River Cree Casino Trip. Bus picks up at 11 am sharp at Heritage Centre. As some of our seniors expressed their concern about the unavailability of seating in the bus, we decided to follow some rules now onwards. Pam will not take any phone calls or text messages; you got to come to Heritage Centre personally and write your name in the Casino list. It is not permitted to write other members names at all. One more thing to mention here is that many of our members are interested in coming to the casino but not for the potluck. We want members to come and support our centre for presentations, card games, potluck etc. Members who have joined other senior centers and able to go to the casino in the same month as Heritage Senior Centre, please allow other members of our centre to have a chance to go to casino, as you have already been there. It applies to those who drive there too. You need to come to the centre and add your name to the casino list.

We face too many issues sometimes. Members who come regularly to the centre and support the centre are unable to join our casino because the bus is full. Please members, you have got to come regularly to the centre to come to the casino. I have noticed members have doctors’ appointments only on potluck days, guess on casino days, doctors are on strike. Please consider other members who would like to go too.
July 30th, 2026, Thursday 12.30PM to 3.30PM: Monthly Potluck, bring a dish to share. If you cannot bring a dish, $10.00 charge is applicable. Cards will be played after the centre is cleaned and everyone needs help to clean our centre. Many hands make light work.
Our special thanks to Rita Handa, for supplying Water to our water dispenser regularly. We welcome any donations, big or small.
Our centre is for rent for any occasion. We charge $75.00 for 4 hours and thereafter is $150.00 and we need a cleaning deposit of $100.00 which will be adjusted depending on the clean-up.
Some of our members are eating at the tables while playing cards, which makes the cards get sticky and Shufflers get hard time to shuffle. Please note that we have big kitchen where we can finish eating, wash hands with soap and water and then play cards. If you found anyone eating during playing Cards, $5.00 will be charged each time.

JUNE 2026 NEWSLETTER

Dear Members,

The month of June is ALS month, which stands for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, which affects the nerve cells in the brain and Spinal Cord.

9th June Tuesday:
Service Canada New Application for Seniors from 12 to 1 PM. Please bring your Social Insurance Number and Proof of Identification.
We have a board meeting from 1PM to 2 PM. Today we would like to celebrate the 97th birthday of our esteemed member, Lilian, (actual birthday is on 7th June). Please feel free to bring snacks / food to share with all members.

11th June Thursday:
Picnic at Jackie Parker Park, meeting at 11.30 AM till 3.30 PM. Bring your picnic chairs and lunch. Get there with your own transportation. The address is 4450- 50 Street. Let us all have fun.

16th June Tuesday: Presentation by the Parkinson’s Association from 12 to 1PM.

23rd June Tuesday:
Alex Shipman from Harmony Caregiving will talk about services for seniors 12 - 1PM.

24th June Wednesday:
Trip to River Cree Casino, bus picks up at 11AM and leaves Casino at 3.30PM. Please sign your name at the Centre before boarding the bus. Members only. Coupons will be given only to you if your name is on the casino list. If you do not cancel within 24 hours of departure, you will have to pay $5.00 to the Centre.

26th June Friday:
Our Father’s Day potluck from 12.30PM to 3.30PM. Please bring a dish to share with 10 people or more. If you cannot bring a dish, you can pay $10.00 to the Centre and enjoy the meal. Cards games can only be played after the pot-luck is finished and cleaned. Make sure that everyone can participate in keeping the tables clean after the pot-luck.

Heritage Seniors Centre has installed a new toilet, donated by our members Larry and Margurette. Thank you both for your donation. We are seniors and it is good for our health to keep our Centre clean always. Treat the Centre as your own home. Some of us come to the Centre to de-stress, not to be stressed.

MAY 2026 NEWSLETTER

Dear Members,

Edmonton begins to wake from its long winter, with sunlight stretching late into the evening sky like a gentle promise of summer as we are entering into May.

Here are some of the programs details for the month of May at the Centre.

May 5th Tuesday, 12 to 1pm: Presentation by Alex Shipmen from Harmony Senior Living, talking about Senior Living, things to look for when touring their site and info about their building.

May 12th Tuesday, 1pm to 3pm: Our Annual General Meeting. We need a quorum to approve the programs, so all members are encouraged to attend. Pushpa Naidoo will be donating muffins and coffee for the AGM.

May 19th Tuesday, 12 to 1pm: Irene Meyer from Churchill Manor will be talking about finances and how to manage your money.

May 21st Thursday, 11am : Heritage Centre members are going to the River Cree Casino. Please sign your names in the centre before boarding the bus at 11am sharp. Coupons will only be given to members whose names are on the list.

May 28th Thursday,12 to 3pm: Mothers Day Potluck. Happy Mother’s Day to all the awesome moms out there. Please write on the Potluck List what dish you'd like to share for 10 people or more. If you cannot bring a dish, you can pay $10.00 and enjoy the meal. Please write on the Potluck list what you will be bringing to the potluck, otherwise we end up with too many desserts with no main meal. And we need to know how many members will be attending so we know how many extra chairs we need to set up.

Thanks to George Parker for always donating coffee to the centre.

All donations are welcome, big or small.

Our centre space is available for rent. We collect $75 for 4 hours, after that $150, cleaning deposit is $100.

Facility user fee is $2 per day for members. Please clean up after Potluck so cards can be played. Every one needs to help in clean-up as we know that many hands make light work.

APRIL 2026 NEWSLETTER

Dear Members,

Winter is past, the rains are over and gone, flowers appear on the earth, the season of spring has come, the cooing of doves is heard in our land.

Here is some exciting news about the programs that we have in April 2026:

April 7th Tuesday 12 to 1pm: Service Canada officials will come to talk about OAS, CPP and GIS eligibility, Survivor Benefits etc. and will answer your questions.

April 14th Tuesday 12 to 1pm: Janelle Brideau, the Fund Development Coordinator of Shepherds Care will be talking about Senior Living and the cost, etc.

April 20th Monday 11am:
Trip to River Cree Casino. Please note that members must sign-up at the Centre before boarding the bus. Please call Pam earlier for Cancellation or the penalty for no show without notice will cost you $5.00. Remember, no coupons will be given to people if your names are not on the Casino List.

April 30th Thursday 12:30 to 3:30pm:
Our Monthly Potluck. Please bring a dish to share with minimum 10 members. If you are interested in attending Potluck but unable to bring a dish, you can pay $10. at the front desk and enjoy the meal. Let us know what dish item you are going to bring so we don’t have duplicates and so we know how many chairs to put out.

April 14th 2026 Tuesday:
Board Meeting at 1pm

Please note: Our Centre is also for rent. For 4 hours, it will be $75.00 and if it is over 4 hours (in a day) it will be $150.00. Damage deposit of $100.00 is required and it is non-refundable.

2026 Membership $30.00 (cash only) is due now. Please renew your yearly membership.

Facility fee per day for your visit: $2.00.
Please ensure you remove soiled outdoor footwear and bring a pair of indoor footwear.
