We had so much fun learning about native bees at our last speaker series! We have put together some additional research on bees and fun facts that we learned from Ilan at the Alberta Native Bee Council!

Here is a sample of important information we learned:
- Expose the soil: Many native bees are ground nesting and need exposed soil to nest. Peel back some of that landscape fabric and deep mulch under shrubs and plants.
-Nest boxes should have holes deeper than 6″ and be made so that they can be cleaned and inspected to prevent diseases and pests from building up.

Join us for our upcoming EHS Speaker Series on Monday, March 30, 2026, from 6:30–9:00 PM at Central Lions Senior Centre for From Aesthetics to Ecology: The New Garden Paradigm.

Nathaniel and Claire Hannemann will explore how gardens can be more than beautiful spaces—they can support biodiversity, build resilience, and create deeper connections between people and nature.

Using ideas from the naturalistic planting movement and examples from their own Alberta garden, this is a great evening for anyone curious about the future of garden design.

See you there! 🌿✨
