Hello beloved community!

Black motherhood deserves room to breathe, to rest, to dream, and to imagine what’s possible 🌱

What does your future feel like in your body, your spirit, your home?

This Friday’s Tea Time with MOM is the last one of the year. As such, we’ll be looking to the future. We’ll gather virtually to set intentions, clarify goals, and create our individual visions for 2026 and beyond. One that is rooted in care, purpose, and empowerment. ✨

We mothers deserve spaces to dream out loud. Your hopes, questions, and big dreams are welcome here. Let’s dream boldly and gently, in community. Join us ☕️💚 .marken

VOICES UNHEARD: Canada’s First Vital Signs Survey For Black Women is a response to the lack of race-based data in the Canadian healthcare landscape that is needed to combat the alarming healthcare disparities Black women face, including poorer perinatal health outcomes, higher risks of developing cardiovascular diseases and aggressive forms of cancer.

For the first time in Canadian history, nearly 2,000 Black women, girls, and gender-diverse individuals have come forward to share their lived experiences in Voices Unheard: Canada’s First National Health Survey of Black Women and Girls. The report, led by the Black Women’s Institute for Health , amplifies the voices of US, black women, who are often overlooked, exposes the systemic harm they endure, and calls for urgent, comprehensive action toward equity healing and reconciliation.

“The expressions on our faces as we read this report conveyed the depth of everything we have experienced—our histories, our truths, and our RESILIENCE-Millicent Asiedu, Founder, MOM

It’s Tuesday so why not ☺️

Therapist confession time…
I was so skeptical of EMDR.
The hand movements.
The minimal talking.
The idea that trauma could shift in ways that didn’t require hours of processing.
It honestly felt a little “out there” to me.
I didn’t understand how something so different from traditional talk therapy could create such fast, meaningful change.
Earlier this year said to me “Millicent, you gotta do EMDR training, you will be blown away by how the brain processes information” and a few months later, here we are! ☺️

I took the EMDR training last week…
and wow.
Everything clicked.
Seeing the neuroscience, the structured protocol, the way the brain reorganizes memories when given the right conditions—
it changed how I understand healing altogether.
I walked in curious.
I walked out completely transformed. ✨
Sometimes the things we resist the most are the things that end up expanding us the most.

EMDR showed me what’s possible when we stop trying to talk our way around trauma
and instead help the brain process it.
And now I’m all in. ✨

It reminded me why I became a therapist in the first place—
to support healing, not to hold onto old models just because they’re familiar.

If you’re ready to try a new approach…
or you’re curious about EMDR…
or you’re simply wanting a different way to move through what’s been heavy—
If you’re craving something deeper—something that goes beyond talking and truly supports your healing—
I’m here, reach out to us at Stillness Therapy and Consulting Services .therapy
EMDR might be the shift you’ve been waiting for. 💛

If your EMDR trained, double tab if you can relate !
Therapists, what has been your experience?

We are excited to welcome .marken to our MOM community as a FACILITATOR for Tea time with MOM- a support group for moms by moms.

Learn a little bit more about Addy below 🌸

Addy Marken is, first and foremost, a proud mom to two little ones, a curious three-year-old and a joyful five-month-old. She feels deeply honoured and grateful to live, work, play, and raise her family in Moh’kins’tsis (known in settler terms as the City of Calgary), on the traditional lands of the Treaty 7 peoples and home to the Métis Nation of Alberta, Region III.

For the past decade, Addy has been a dedicated public servant in Alberta, serving in various roles within the Government of Alberta and Alberta Health Services. Guided by a strong commitment to advocacy and community development, her work and interests centre on the intersections within the intersectionality framework and advancements for equity-deserving groups.

Motherhood has always inspired and intrigued Addy, even before becoming a mother herself. This lifelong curiosity has shaped her passion for researching maternal health, feminism, and related topics. She is thrilled to join the Tea Time with MOM facilitator team and looks forward to contributing to meaningful conversations and community building in the journey ahead.
