Guru Nanak Dev Healing Garden Refurbishment Project.

A few weeks ago we had the honour & a distinct pleasure to participate in a ceremonial cheque presentation to the University Hospital Foundation as the community’s contribution towards the refurbishment of the indoor healing garden. These funds were collected last year through a radiothon with MyRadio580 team.

We were delighted to have several of our major community donors join us in the celebration. These same families, along with others, had made substantial donations 20 years ago when $2.3M was raised to establish the Guru Nanak Dev Healing Garden in the Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute.

The community, now through BNT, remains committed to supporting facilities that serve the needs of the broader Canadian family.

DEMENTIA WORKSHOP FOR SOUTH ASIANS

Dementia can affect every family — including South Asian families.

• South Asian Canadians have higher rates of diabetes than Caucasian Canadians, and diabetes and hypertension are important risk factors associated with dementia.
• In a recent Canadian dementia study, South Asian participants reported greater cognitive concerns than White participants, highlighting the importance of culturally appropriate awareness and research.
• 27% of South and Southeast Asian Canadians surveyed believed dementia is an inevitable part of aging — but dementia is not an inevitable part of getting older.

🌟 Building Understanding. Strengthening Community. 🌟

Baba Nanak Trust Foundation recently brought together community members, youth, civic leaders, and partner organizations for a successful Community Hate Crime Workshop focused on awareness, prevention, and community resilience.

Delivered in collaboration with the Organization for the Prevention of Violence (OPV), the workshop explored the evolving landscape of hate, extremism, and targeted violence in Canada. Participants gained valuable insights into recognizing hate-motivated incidents, understanding reporting barriers, and supporting safer, more inclusive communities.

A key takeaway was the growing involvement of youth in hate-related activities, highlighting the importance of early education, dialogue, and positive community engagement.

We were encouraged by the strong participation and overwhelmingly positive feedback from attendees, who left with a deeper understanding of hate crime issues and the role each of us can play in fostering respect and belonging.

Together, through collaboration, education, and community connection, we can help build a more inclusive and united future for all.

Mental Health is a big part of personal & community Wellness and we were delighted to showcase how BNT supports mental health in the community.
