WEEKLY UPDATE!

Ken is on the road again this week, heading down to the US for more meetings.

Yesterday, Kevin joined organizers from the other Building Trades of Alberta affiliates for a meeting. And we officially welcomed our first third year apprenticeship class to IMI Alberta - Edmonton Training Centre! It's been a long time coming, and we're pretty excited to finally have them here.

We've also got a busy few days ahead of us at the training centre…

On Thursday, we're welcoming The Educational Partnership Foundation for a teacher tour over the lunch hour. We're always happy to show educators around and share a little more about what we do!

Youcan Youth Services is back again on Thursday and Friday for another couple of days with us. They always bring a great group so we are excited!

And on Friday, we're welcoming 25+ engineers from the University of Alberta's Masonry Centre for a 3 hour hands-on workshop working with block. We spend a lot of time talking about the importance of masonry, so we're excited to give them a chance to get their hands on some of the materials and try it out for themselves.

Did you know that in 2028, BAC Local 1 Alberta will be celebrating our 125th anniversary?

To put that into perspective, we've been around longer than… the province of Alberta, the first powered airplane flight in Canada, anddddd Oreo cookies 😂

We know 2028 is still a little ways away, but we're already starting to think about how we want to celebrate, and we want to hear from you!

What kind of 125th anniversary merch or swag would you like to see? Jackets? Bags? Challenge coins? Something completely different?

We can't promise every idea will make the cut, but we'd love to hear what our members would actually want to celebrate this huge anniversary.

WEEKLY UPDATE

It might be a short week, but we’ve got lots happening!

Ken is back from the Tradeswomen Build Nations conference in Houston. We’ve got a full post coming soon with photos and highlights from the event, so stay tuned.

IMI Alberta - Edmonton Training Centre is closed for one more week while our instructors are in Maryland at the IMI National Training Centre, completing their first year of the Instructor Certification Program. They’ll be back this weekend, just in time to welcome our third-year apprentices on Monday! We’re holding down the fort and getting all those last minute things checked off the list before the new class arrives.

Our monthly union meeting is happening tomorrow (October 14th) at 7:30pm. This month is an exciting one because our Calgary/South region will be holding its pin presentation!

We recently announced our annual Children's Christmas Party, happening Saturday, December 5, in Edmonton! We’re looking forward to another fun afternoon with our members and their families. Happy Canadian Thanksgiving from all of us at IMI Alberta - Edmonton Training Centre and Bricklayers & Allied Craftworkers Local 1 Alberta.

This Thanksgiving, we’re feeling especially grateful for our members, their families, and the contractors and community partners we get to work alongside each day.

Whether you're spending the long weekend with family and friends, enjoying some well deserved downtime, or working through the holiday, we hope you have a great day!

Our office will re-open tomorrow at 8:00am.

Our Annual Children's Christmas Party is back!

We're looking forward to celebrating the holiday season with our Local 1 members and their families.

Join us on Saturday, December 5th, from 11:00am to 2:00pm at our Edmonton union hall for an afternoon of Christmas fun, including gifts, crafts, entertainment, snacks, and of course, a special visit from Santa!

Planning to attend? Please RSVP by November 20 so we can plan for everyone. When registering, be sure to include the names and ages of any children attending (up to age 12).

Quick update from Houston! 🇺🇸🧱

Today is the banner parade at Tradeswomen Build Nations.

It is amazing to see so many of our International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers sisters proudly representing our trade alongside thousands of other tradeswomen from across North America.

We’ll have a full recap and lots more photos to share in the next couple of days, but we couldn’t wait to share a little glimpse of the action!
