In this past Sunday’s Community Cooks class, we learned how to make Macedonian Kifli and Moroccan Harira! 🇲🇰🇲🇦

Sef Salham (𖤐 Sef) guided us through every step, from kneading and baking the soft and fluffy Kifli, to stewing ingredients for the fragrant and warming Harira. Sef also shared the stories behind these dishes, explaining how feta is never missing from the equation in Macedonian meals (including in the Kifli!). As for the Harira, it makes a nutritious and filling meal to break one’s fast during Ramadan.

Between the 2 dishes, we made over 200 servings!

We are grateful for the incredible team at 4B Harm Reduction Society - YEG who delivered these meals to community members facing food insecurity.

Thank you to Dovercourt Community League for hosting us!

We also had some time to play a game of “guess the origin of the ingredient,” where we learned the geographical origin of common food crops! 🌽🍎🥜

Join us for our first class of Saturday morning yoga on June 27 with earthcitysoul! Certified yoga instructor, Kaliegh Boyce, will be leading us through a 75 minute outdoor flow class. Connect body to breath as we build strength and somatic awareness, tuning into natures rhythms in the Mill Creek Healing Park. This playful, energizing class is intended to open our hearts and build confidence through connective movement. Yesterday’s Community Cooks class featuring Ukrainian and Polish cuisine resulted in over 600 pierogi being made!

As always, we are so grateful for the many hands that go into these beautiful meals. Our cooking lead, Sam, walked us through the cherished recipes and techniques for handmade pierogi and borscht. And with the help of community, and the absolutely incredible team .harm.reduction, we were able to share many warm meals last night.

Huge thanks to the team for inviting us into their gorgeous kitchen space!

Moments from our last Community Cooks class, Mother’s Day Momo!

We made over 500 momo, a specialty dish from Nepal, to share with community! Pravatika, our cooking lead, reminded us that momo are often made communally, with friends and family sitting down together to collectively work through the steps - making the dumpling dough, chopping and preparing the filling, stuffing and shaping the momo. We paired it with aloo dum, a fragrant potato side dish, and a fresh kochumber salad. We were so lucky to learn about this culinary treasure from Nepal!

Head to the link in bio to donate now to their Bloom Where You’re Planted fundraising campaign. Your support goes to programs like Community Cooks, which provides free hot meals and low-cost cooking classes in your community. Consider supporting today!
