⭐️ Trades & Tech Thursday Spotlight: JOB SEARCH ⭐️
The Job Search competition prepares competitors for one of the most important real-world skills of all: successfully applying for and securing a job. This competition simulates the full application and interview process that job seekers experience, emphasizing professionalism, communication, and confidence.
Competitors are evaluated on how effectively they present both their application materials and themselves to prospective employers.
📝 Resume & Cover Letter Submission
Competitors apply for one of two mock job postings by submitting a tailored resume and cover letter combined into a single PDF. These materials are judged on:
• Alignment with the job posting and required qualifications
• Professional formatting and consistent visual style
• Strong grammar, spelling, and writing quality
• Clear, well-crafted bullet points that meet competition standards
🎤 Skills for Success Presentation
Competitors also create and deliver a live presentation focused on The Importance of Skills for Success in the Workplace. Presentations may be created using PowerPoint, Google Slides, or another multimedia format and are judged on both content and delivery.
Competitors must clearly demonstrate their understanding of the Skills for Success framework and expand on their ideas through confident narration to the judging panel.
🤝 Job Interview
The final phase is a panel-style interview lasting approximately 15–30 minutes. All competitors are asked the same questions and are evaluated on their ability to:
• Present themselves professionally
• Make strong first impressions
• Communicate clearly and confidently
• Demonstrate effective listening and genuine interest
• Showcase their strengths and “sell themselves”
• Show knowledge of the mock employer based on the job posting
The Job Search competition highlights that strong communication, preparation, and self-awareness are essential skills across every trade and technology career. It’s a powerful reminder that technical skills and professional skills go hand in hand.
