We are a new club that has formed under the Extreme Cowboy Racing Association (EXCA). XWR’s purpose is to promote the sport of obstacle racing and to give people the opportunity to experience this growing sport! Xtreme Wild Rose (XWR) is a dynamic club dedicated to promoting the sport of obstacle racing. XWR is affiliated with the Extreme Cowboy Racing Association (EXCA) well known in Alberta for
the Cowboy Up Challenge, seen annually at the Calgary Stampede, where people from all over Canada and the USA to showcase their skills at obstacle racing. Based out of Wild Rose Arena, XWR is located between Red Deer and Rocky Mountain House, and now holding events throughout northern and central Alberta. Wild Rose Arena has been offering horse obstacle clinics for over 6 years, helping riders of all ages increase their horse knowledge, riding skills and the appreciation of good horsemanship. The XWR club consists of a diverse group of enthusiasts who enjoy promoting good horsemanship while challenging themselves and their horses through obstacle racing. Obstacles can be creative while keeping safety in mind for both horse and rider. The obstacles are meant to demonstrate the horse’s trust in the rider and the horsemanship skills required to ride through each obstacle. Extreme Cowboy Association (EXCA) has eight different divisions to accommodate varying levels of horses and riders. There is a set number of obstacles for each division and obstacles are rated according to their level of difficulty. Extreme Cowboy Racing is an exciting way to enhance the relationship between horse and rider. Obstacle challenges can help strengthen the bond between horse and rider by encouraging focus on one another, both on the ground and in the saddle. Adding speed with the obstacles is a way to further challenge riders' skills with their equine partners. Xtreme Wild Rose club promotes the sport of obstacle racing because of its unique combination of speed, control, agility, and horsemanship. Whether you are a novice or experienced rider, whether your horse of any breed is young or old, enhancing your horse's training though obstacle work will improve your ability to work together. Obstacle racing is a fun family event. XWR welcomes riders to come and ride the challenge!
