Canada’s moral obligation: Truth and Reconciliation
Momma Wipe Your Eyes Foundation emphasizes that our moral obligation as Canadians is to bring peace and to honour indigenous means of transforming societal harmony.
As we take time today to truly reflect on the realities that accompany the words ”Truth and reconciliation” we need to recognize that we must walk alongside our indigenous partners to support the transformation of these obligations into actions and ultimately create the foundation for an equitable and compassionate society.
True depth in silence, reflection, and dedication are core to commemorating the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day.
It’s also no coincidence that those dates fall right next to the International Day of Non-Violence and Child Health Day.
We must ensure that our promises are commitments; our actions encompass integrity; and that the past does not repeat itself.
Today is the 80th anniversary of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada’s Call to Action and is intended to honour Survivors of Canada’s Residential Schools, their families, and Communities. How we mark the day will be different for all of us.
