Frankie | Chihuahua Mix | Male | 6 years | 8lbs. | Fostered in Georgetown | Available

Meet Frankie! This sweet boy is a 6 year old Chihuahua mix, weighing 8 pounds. He was surrendered to the rescue when his owner went into hospice. He is now ready to find that special someone or family who is able to offer him a brand new start.

Frankie is playful and friendly, however he can be timid with new introductions. Frankie would do well as an only dog or in a home with other dogs. He gets along nicely with the other dogs in his foster home, and often follows their lead.

Frankie walks well on his leash and loves going for walks. He gets excited to go wherever his foster family is going. As much as he loves adventures, he also loves to cuddle up on the couch and have a nap. Frankie would do best in a home where someone can offer him companionship throughout the day, and regular outdoor breaks to support his housetraining.

Frankie is moderately active, enjoying shorter walks and playing with toys. He can get overexcited and protective when playing with his toys. For this reason, a family with older, dog savvy kids would be best. Frankie can be vocal at times, so he may not be suited for apartment living.

Frankie is an adorable little dog with the softest coat, and would make a wonderful best friend or addition to a family. Please consider giving him a loving home.

Thumper | Terrier Mix | Male | 1 year | 22lbs. | Fostered in Caledonia | Available

Thumper is a handsome male Terrier mix who is just over a year old and weighing approximately 22 pounds. He is neutered and up to date on his vaccinations. His foster family thinks he is an amazing boy and one of the easiest they have had.

This sweet, happy boy is the perfect combination of playful and affectionate. He's always up for an adventure—whether it's exploring the backyard, going for a walk, or enjoying a game of chase. After a day of fun, Thumper is just as happy to curl up beside you on the couch for some cuddles.

Thumper is a smart, eager-to-learn pup who has already mastered the command "sit" and “down”. He's food-motivated, loves to please his people, and enjoys learning new things, making continued training both fun and rewarding.

He is house trained, though like any dog, he'll need a little reinforcement as he adjusts to his new home. Thumper walks beautifully on a leash and sleeps quietly through the night in his crate.

One of Thumper's best qualities is his friendly, social nature. He gets along wonderfully with other dogs, making him a great companion for a home with another playful pup. He has been tested with dog savvy cats. He really hopes they will play with him but will back off if they are not interested. He would not do well with small rodents or rabbits. He would also thrive as an only dog with a family that can offer him lots of attention and action.

Thumper loves chew toys and has a blast chasing a ball—although he's still working on the "bring it back" part!

Thumper has been tested with children over the age of 10. He has always been happy, friendly, and well-mannered. Because of his playful enthusiasm and energy, he would likely do best with older children who can keep up with his active lifestyle and understand how to respectfully interact with dogs.

A securely fenced yard is a must for this curious little explorer. He loves to sniff, roam, and enjoy the outdoors, and a yard will give him the space he needs to burn off energy and have fun.

If you're looking for a loyal companion who will happily join you on walks and adventures, keep you smiling with his playful personality, and then curl up beside you for a cozy evening on the couch, Thumper could be the perfect addition to your family.

Thumper is ready to start his next adventure—with you!

ADOPTED!

Poppi | Pug Mix | Female | 2 years | 17lbs. | Fostered in New Hamburg |

Hi friends, my name is Poppi, a 17lb, 2yr old female Pug mix from Texas and I'm looking for my furever home.

As you can see, I'm a cutie patootie, looking for a loving home where I can be the centre of attention. I am friendly and gentle. I am great with other dogs and also good with kids. I happily greet strangers including kids while on walks. I enjoy a brisk walk with stops and sniffs along the way. My foster mom says I'm really starting to shine and thinks I'm a great little dog.

I don't have crazy energy but get the odd little burst of energy now and again. I am so happy just following you around, playing quietly beside you and laying with you when you sit down. I am food motivated and a smart girl but will admit I probably could use some work on my manners. I need a little help controlling myself when people food is around, but I'm learning very quickly that it's not really acceptable for me to jump on your lap while you're trying to eat.

I sleep peacefully in my crate at night and have the run of the house during the day without accident or being destructive. I enjoy just chilling while you're away and maybe monitoring what's going on outside in the neighbourhood. I will bark occasionally if I see someone, but will stop when told to. I'm not saying I enjoy bath time and nail trims, but I will let my foster Mom do it without too much trouble.

My foster family say I'm lovable and loyal and believe I deserve the best life. I can't wait for you to love me as much as I will love you.

ADOPTION PENDING!

Dewey | Decker Rat Terrier | 10 months | 20lbs. | Male | Fostered in Cumberland Beach |

Dewey is a handsome 10-month-old (born Oct 2025) Decker Rat Terrier weighing around 20 pounds. Don't let his young age fool you—this handsome boy has a wonderfully calm, laid-back personality and is happiest when he's close to his people.

Dewey has settled into home life beautifully. He is crate trained and sleeps quietly through the night, or happily relaxing in his crate while his family is away. His house training is coming along well, and he thrives with a consistent routine. A fully fenced yard would be ideal for him, giving him a safe space to explore while continuing to build his confidence and routine.

Dewey is a loving, affectionate boy who enjoys nothing more than curling up for a good snuggle. If given the choice, he'd much rather be cuddled up beside you in bed than sleeping anywhere else! He is wonderful with adults and children and loves being included in whatever his family is doing.

He walks nicely on a leash and is very food motivated, making him eager to learn. Like many young dogs, he's still working on his manners and would thrive with a family who enjoys continuing his training using positive reinforcement. He can be a little excited by cats and other distractions on walks, but with consistency and guidance, he's eager to please and continues to make great progress.

Dewey would be happiest in a home where he can spend plenty of time with his people; someone who is home most of the day would be ideal. He's a loyal, affectionate companion with so much love to give and is ready to find a forever family who will help him continue to grow into the incredible dog he's already becoming.

Scout | Toy Australian Shepherd | Female | 5 months | 14lbs. | Available

THIS DOG IS FOSTERED IN TEXAS AND WILL COME TO CANADA WITH AN ACCEPTED ADOPTION CONTRACT. PUPPIES UNDER THE AGE OF 8 MONTHS CANNOT COME TO CANADA WITHOUT AN APPROVED ADOPTER. You will not be able to meet your puppy ahead of pick up date - Rat Terrier Rescue Canada will attempt to provide you with as many pictures and videos as possible between a confirmed adoption and pick up. At Rat Terrier Rescue Canada we pride ourselves on matching our dogs with their best furever homes. Please see this document, written by a previous adopter, on our Adoption Process, and information about adopting rescue dogs coming from outside Canada: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Zdt9OTOlu5EA4xKEUeLTKGyVxRqwD3Ev/view?usp=sharing

Scout is a sweet-natured, 5 month old (born in February 2026), 14lb. female Toy Australian Shepherd looking for a loving home. She is a little shy when meeting new people, but with patience and kindness, her gentle personality shines through. Compared to her sister, Renny, Scout has a calmer, less active temperament and enjoys a quieter lifestyle.

Scout is fully vetted and spayed.

Scout has a stable eye condition that does not require any treatment. She has limited vision in one eye due to a combination of a slight birth defect called microphthalmia (a small eye) and a previous eye injury, which has left the eye cloudy. The affected eye is smaller than the other and always will be, but it is stable and does not cause her pain. She has adapted well and lives a happy, normal life.

Scout would do best with a family who understands that she may need a little extra time to build confidence. Once she feels safe, she is a loyal, affectionate companion who enjoys being close to her people. She is looking for a patient home where her gentle nature will be appreciated and where she can continue to thrive.

Meet Moonpie!

Moonpie is a 4 month old (born in April 2026) female Labrador mix who currently weighs 17 pounds. She was found abandoned, but she's ready to leave that chapter behind and find a family to call her own.

Moonpie is a sweet, confident little girl with a big personality. She'll definitely let you know when she wants your attention! She is very playful, thinks she's the boss, and loves spending time with the big dogs.

She's a smart puppy who will go into her crate when she's tired and will even use her puppy p*e pads while she's in there. Like many puppies, she enjoys playing with house shoes and loves getting little treats. She's also figured out exactly where the food is stored and isn't shy about barking to let you know she'd like a snack!

Moonpie is full of personality, confidence, and charm. She's looking for a family who will enjoy her playful spirit, continue her training, and give her the love she deserves after being dumped at such a young age. Because she is a puppy, any children in the home should be dog savvy.

If you're looking for a fun, clever puppy who will keep you smiling every day, Moonpie might be your perfect match.

Boomer | Beagle/Hound Mix | Male | 6 years | 40lbs. | Fostered in Chatham | Available

Howdy! My name is Boomer. I am a 6 yr old Beagle X, weighing about 40 pounds. Wow ... I know that sound big but really I’m not, sure could give a guy a complex though! I'm so happy that I came to RTRC. As you can tell from my pictures, I am a happy dog that just loves being with you all day long. Oh yes, just love getting belly rubs or giving kisses too.

I totally love everything about life.. . especially going for walks. I think a big fenced yard of my own would be great for me too. I even like joy riding in the car!

I absolutely adore being around you all the time, I’m like your little shadow following you everywhere. I will sit at your feet. Sometimes when you rub my tummy, I mumble just a bit. This makes my foster parents laugh out loud at me. Little do they know I just love to hear their voice talking to me. Oh how I love the feeling of been loved by someone.

I'm very good about going about my business outside, and getting a treat when I come in makes it all worthwhile. You know, you could get me to do a lot for a treat; I'm rather fond of them. Dreaming of getting the next one. (sigh)

I am very good in the house while you’re away but if you need to, you could put me in the crate, I don’t mind it for too long.

I’m a well-rounded boy that is very gentle, so maybe your children would like a loving boy like me. Right now, I live now with younger child. I would be great as an only dog, I could be with other doggies too. I haven’t met any kitties yet.

In return, here are some things I can offer:
- A delightful and fun personality
- Lots of snuggle time; maybe wet doggie kisses and love
- A faithful and loyal companion
- Entertainment or maybe some new tricks to teach me.
- very gentle soul with a zesty for life.

Let's cut to the chase, you want me, and I want you so fill out an application so that the rescue can tell you more about me. Filling it out doesn't mean you HAVE to adopt me but it gives the rescue a jumping off point to start talking about me.

Adoption Fee: $575.00
