Kate | Terrier Mix | Female | 6 months | 15lbs. | Fostered in Windsor | Available

Kate is an energetic, funny, and very social 6-month-old, 15lb. terrier mix puppy looking for her forever home. She is about 95% house trained and will need time and consistency to learn the routine in her new home.

Kate sleeps well in her crate, walks nicely on a leash, and loves to be held like a baby. She is up to date on all of her vaccinations and will need to be spayed when she is old enough.

Kate loves playing with other dogs, enjoys toys, and absolutely loves belly rubs. She will happily play a one-sided game of fetch — she loves chasing after the toy but is still working on bringing it back!

She is super eager to learn and would thrive with regular playtime and several short walks each day to help burn off her puppy energy. A fenced yard where she can safely sniff around and do her zoomies would be a dream come true for this playful girl.

Like many puppies, Kate can be a bit of a “landshark” while learning her puppy manners and is still discovering what she is allowed to chew — especially when it comes to slippers. She would benefit from puppy classes to continue building her confidence, basic skills, and positive chewing habits.

Children over the age of 7 would likely be the best fit for Kate’s playful puppy stage. It is currently unknown how she would do with cats. Her loving personality, goofy charm, and joyful spirit would make her a wonderful addition to a caring and active home.

Trini | Border Collie Mix | Female | 20lbs. | 4 years | Fostered in Scarborough | Available

This is me Trini, a cutie if I do say so myself. I am a sweet, four year year old, tripawd Border Collie mix. I weigh about 20 lbs. I'm a southern beauty, recently from Texas.

I am very affectionate, always wanting to snuggle with my foster family. I am very attached to my foster mom, and I settled in quickly to the family routine. I am incredibly gentle and loving, taking advantage of any attention or cuddle time I might get. Never a growl out of me. I am very shy and just want to be with my family. I can be left for five hours or so, but I do like it best when my people are home with me.

I am a girl who enjoys spending my day relaxing with my canine foster siblings. I also enjoy daily walks around the neighbourhood. I walk well on leash, moving easily and I can be very agile when needed. I am almost house trained and crate trained, and at night I sleep soundly. I have wonderful house manners and I am not destructive in the home. I am a very easy dog to take care of.

The ideal home for me would be with a quiet family, or person, residing in a quiet area or neighbourhood. Any children would need to be older, calm & quiet. I would love a fenced backyard to run and play in, as I'm fast and agile. I will also need daily walks to keep me stimulated and happy. I am not suited to apartment living as I would be afraid of interacting with the people in the building.

Trini is a very special girl, embodying pure unconditional love. This girl is so deserving of a new life and looks forward to a kind and patient furever family. We are not sure of her background or how she came to have three legs, but she is resilient. She will love you forever!

ADOPTION PENDING!

Willow | Chihuahua Mix | Female | 6 years | 12lbs. | Fostered in Windsor |

Meet Willow — a full-figured sweetheart of a chihuahua mix, with a heart just as big as her cuddly belly! At 6 years old and 12 pounds, this lovely gal is house trained, affectionate, and happiest when curled up beside her favourite person getting belly rubs and snuggles.

Willow can be a little shy at first, but once she feels safe, her friendly and loyal personality shines through. She takes her job as household protector very seriously and loves to patrol the home and alert you to any “potential dangers,” so she would do best in a house rather than an apartment or condo where close neighbours may not appreciate her watchful nature.

This pretty girl could also benefit from regular exercise to help her regain her girlish figure, and she’d love a person who enjoys walks and quality cuddle time equally. At bedtime, Willow’s dream is to sleep close to her human and be part of the family.

Because sudden movements and unpredictable behaviour can make her nervous, Willow would likely do best in a calm home with older children or adults only.

Willow is up to date on vaccines and recently had a dental, so she’s ready to start her next chapter healthy, happy, and smiling bright!

If you’re looking for a loyal companion, professional cuddle buddy, and tiny home security system all in one adorable package, Willow may be your perfect match!

ADOPTION PENDING!

Royal | Terrier Mix | Male | 6 months | 20lbs.|

THIS DOG IS FOSTERED IN LOUISIANA AND WILL COME TO CANADA WITH AN ACCEPTED ADOPTION CONTRACT. PUPPIES UNDER THE AGE OF 8 MONTHS CANNOT COME TO CANADA WITHOUT AN APPROVED ADOPTER. You will not be able to meet your puppy ahead of pick up date - Rat Terrier Rescue Canada will attempt to provide you with as many pictures and videos as possible between a confirmed adoption and pick up.

Royal is a 20lb., 6 month old (born in November) male Terrier mix with a big personality and an even bigger heart; he is the most loving boy.

He’s very playful and loves to “talk” to you, always letting you know when he wants attention or is ready to play. Royal enjoys being around everyone, including kids, and especially loves playing with other dogs—running around, chasing toys, and having fun. He loves the outdoors and his favourite thing is to lay out in the grass, so a fenced in area would be good for him. He also likes to play in mud puddles!

When playtime winds down, Royal is happy to cuddle and relax. At bedtime, he tries to climb onto the bed with the other dogs but will happily run back to his playpen. But he does like to sleep with his foster mom. He is now fully housetrained. He is very good in his crate and will sleep in it sometimes. When I get him out of his crate in the morning, the first thing he does is give me a hug; it is the sweetest thing!

He would do good with another dog in the home or would be happy to be the only dog, so he gets all the attention.

Royal would thrive in a home where he gets plenty of love, attention, and opportunities to play. He loves to give hugs. If you’re looking for a small-ish dog with a lively spirit and a cuddly side, Royal may be the perfect match.

At Rat Terrier Rescue Canada we pride ourselves on matching our dogs with their best furever homes. Iced Cappuccino (aka Cappy) | Yellow Labrador/Terrier Mix | Female | 10 months | 24lbs. | Fostered in Caledonia | Available

Looking for a gentle, sweet companion with a playful spirit? Meet Cappy — a lovable young pup with a heart as warm as her name! She is a 10 month old, 24lb. Labrador/Terrier Mix, although her momma appears to have some husky in her.

Cappy is a timid girl at first and needs a little time and patience to warm up to new people and environments. Once she feels safe, her incredibly sweet, gentle personality shines through. She loves being close to her people and is happiest when she feels secure and loved. She is an absolute snuggle bug when she is comfortable!

This energetic young dog would thrive with an active family who can give her lots of exercise and playtime. A secure fenced yard is strongly recommended so she has space to run and burn off her puppy energy. In spite of her energy, Cappy is quiet. She rarely barks or whines.

Cappy LOVES toys. She absolutely adores other dogs and would benefit from having a canine companion in the home to show her the ropes and keep her entertained. She walks well on a leash but can be nervous with loud noises so double-leashing her would be important until she is comfortable. She sleeps quietly through the night in her crate and can be left there for a few hours while her people are out. Since she is still a puppy, she should not be left alone for long periods of time.

Cappy needs a patient family willing to continue her confidence-building. She has been attending dog training to boost her confidence and she would benefit from continued training or socialization. Cappy needs crate or cozy den space where she can retreat and feel safe. This is essential for her. She would do best with older children only, as younger kids may overwhelm her and she is still learning her size. Cappy will need continued support with house training as she is still learning. She is doing great with frequent trips outside and watching her cues.

Cappy is untested with cats but she has shown zero prey drive with rabbits, squirrels, and birds outside.

Cappy is the kind of dog who may take a little extra time in the beginning, but the reward is a loyal, loving companion who will steal your heart. If you’re looking for a gentle best friend and are willing to help her continue building confidence, Cappy may be your perfect match.

ADOPTION PENDING!

Petey | Chihuahua Mix | Male | 6 years | 20lbs. | Fostered in Kitchener |

Meet Petey, a 6 year old 20lb chihuahua mix with a sweet demeanor and the appetite of a bear. He is fully housetrained, neutered, and vaccinated. He’s great with kids and other dogs but he hasn’t met any cats.

Petey has a gorgeous short black and white coat with an adorable spot over his eye. His floppy, lopsided ears are also a killer. He’s very well behaved and we haven’t heard him bark at all. We hear he was once crate trained and he does well in his crate now. He needs some re-training to remember how to get in on command. He walks well on a leash!

Because he is quiet, he would probably do well in an apartment. We've left him alone for an hour or two and he was well behaved. We haven't left him for a full day but I think he would be okay if his people were out of the house for work.

Petey is absolutely convinced that every morsel of food belongs to him. It’s clear why he weighs in at about 20 lbs (5 lbs over his healthy weight). He is very polite with his foster family’s food (both human and dog) but he makes his desire very clear with his expectant stares. He is learning about a healthy diet and expectations in his foster home.
