Scripture reminds us that it is God who brings growth in the hearts and lives of people—not the skill, effort, or faithfulness of a missionary. And yet, God invites His people to participate in that work with humility, perseverance, and love. In Colossians 1:28–29, Paul describes a vision that r...

Colombia: Pray for Nukak Literacy Outreach

Colin and Megan Rogers minister among the Nukak people of Colombia. “Please praise the Lord with us for the opportunities we've had so far this year to share our lives with the Nukak. Please pray for the literacy program, especially that the students [would] be faithful to come. Please also pray that they will follow our suggestions to them to show their siblings and relatives how to read as well. Pray that the desire of the Nukak to read their own language will grow. Please pray that we will find favour in the eyes of the administrative agents who receive the literacy materials and that they will act in the genuine interest of the Nukak people.”

Gerald and Lizzy DeFouw serve in the Philippines where they are helping to lead the E2 program, the program where new missionaries to the field go through CLA (culture and language acquisition). “We have been praising the Lord for the arrival of many new students! … The team is growing and expanding, and we are excited to see so many new students moving into language classes who hopefully one day will have the privilege of pairing up to work in an unreached or least-reached people group in the Philippines.” Pray for wisdom and endurance as Gerald and Lizzy help lead the E2 program. Pray for stamina for the new missionaries as they go through language learning Phase 1.

Arctic Canada: Finishing the Race Set Before Us

Here in the Arctic, there are community festivals throughout the year. In April, our team attended the events of the annual spring festival in town. One of the highlights for our ministry team was watching the skidoo and qamutik race. A qamutik is a sled that trails behind a skidoo. Each contestant was required to carry supplies on his qamutik, including 20 gallons of fuel, a tarp, Coleman stove, sleeping bag, two days' worth of food, and a rifle. Eighteen racers showed up to the race on the bay, all geared up and hoping to win the cash prize. It took just under four hours for the first racer to cross the sea ice and travel 236 km, putting his average speed at 94 km/hr. The qamutik bounced and sprayed snow as people cheered for him crossing the finish line!

These racers had to be tough and prepared. Frostbite is always a concern. Some racers lost their qamutiks or dealt with their skidoos breaking down, causing them to be unable to finish. Some went off the main trail, which delayed them. Each racer was very focused on the trail in front of him, attempting to navigate, drive at top speed, and not lose his qamutik. This made it even more exciting to see the contestants cross the finish line, knowing that this was not an easy feat.

The apostle Paul understood the focus and grit required in a race. He said in Acts 20:24, “However, I consider my life worth nothing to me; my only aim is to finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me—the task of testifying to the good news of God’s grace.” This is something he exhorts all believers to do because they have been given the task of sharing the good news with the world. Would you pray for our team, that God would give us the endurance and focus needed to continue the race set before us?

Adam and Julie Martin minister among the Akolet people of Papua New Guinea.

Praise God that the Akolet New Testament translation is progressing well. “We plan to have [the Gospel of] John consultant-checked (the final step before printing and distributing) in August, at which time the only remaining books will be Titus, Philemon and Jude.” Pray that this momentum will continue through to the end of the translation project. Pray that God would sustain the translation team as they faithfully plug away at translation. Pray for the Akolet church to delight in God’s Word and to thrive as they grow in Christ’s likeness.

West Africa: Celebrating Newly Translated Scripture

In April, there was cause for celebration among a people group in West Africa: the dedication of the New Testament in their heart language. Praise that these people now have physical copies of . Over 20 village chiefs and officials were in attendance and received a New Testament. Pray that this would open doors for church planters to these other villages. Praise God for enabling the translation team to complete this translation. The main translator passed away just a few months ago; praise God that she will receive her rewards in heaven for faithful service to the Lord. Pray that the 1,750 copies, which have been held up along their journey to the village, would arrive soon.

Jonathan and Susan Kopf minister among the Hewa people of Papua New Guinea.

Praise God that the printing of the Hewa New Testament is fully funded, and Lord willing, by the time you read this, the New Testaments will have been printed. The Bibles, the first ever printed in the Hewa language, contain the entire New Testament and 45 chapters of the Old Testament. The Kopfs planned to have a Bible dedication after their daughter graduates high school this month, but sadly both Jonathan’s mom and Susan’s mom in the USA are facing difficult health diagnoses. “Please join with us in praying that the Lord gives clear guidance on when we should return to Hewa to place these newly printed Scriptures into their hands.”

Aaron and Amy, along with co-workers Guy and Keyla and Bible translator Lesley, minister among the “G” people of West Africa.

They are teaching through Phase Two, the second round of chronological Bible lessons, this time focusing on descriptive teaching more than on prescriptive teaching. “The teaching under the tree makes progress, although slowly. We finished the last Old Testament lessons and also taught another lesson summarizing the whole Old Testament. Those who come more regularly to the teaching seem to track very well, and I believe they did get a much better idea of the big picture about what God was and is doing in this world. … We thank God for those ‘G’ who are interested in His Word and keep coming to listen to His Word.” Pray for understanding as they learn about who Jesus was and is — not an ordinary man, but God’s Son. “Please pray for strength, concentration and a leading of the Holy Spirit, as we choose passages from the Gospels for the next few lessons.”

Eric and Judith Hedeen minister among the Malaumanda people of Papua New Guinea.

“The Bible teachers have been going through the Creation to Christ teaching with the students that are in the local school, and after the gospel presentation, 61 elementary students gave a profession of faith in Jesus. Some of these kids are from our village, but many are from other villages where the gospel has not been welcome. Praise the Lord!” Pray that this will open the door to other villages. Pray for missionaries to go to these other villages. Pray for these elementary students to have opportunities to grow in the Word and in their walk with the Lord.

Tiffany Beachy is a teacher at Ramu Valley Academy (RVA) in Papua New Guinea.

The school has a unique role in fulfilling the — many of the students are the sons and daughters of national missionaries and church leaders, and the teachers at RVA strive to teach and disciple the next generation of church leaders in Ramu Valley. Tiffany shares that there is a need for more teachers, especially English teachers. There is also a need for construction workers to work on projects at the school. Pray that God would provide more labourers and that He would sustain the teachers currently at RVA. Pray that the believing students would grow in their walk with the Lord and that the unsaved students would place their trust in Jesus Christ.
