We had a work bee a little while back doing some cleanup around the theatre and found this incredibly random fortune on the ground underneath one of the seats. I don’t know how we haven’t yet seen it in the years of touring the closed theatre but it felt quite serendipitous as a message to our board who are working very hard to reopen the Dundalk Olde Town Hall for the community! Hoping for many good things on the horizon this year! 🔔

If these walls (and seats) could talk! Oh the stories they’d tell. 🎞️📽️🎹🎭🎟️🥁🔔

There are few local spots left that you can walk into and know someone walked in there 120 years ago. It’s impossible to think about the vibrant history of Dundalk and leave out stories and memories from the Olde Town Hall - our historic beauty that still stands tall today.

Our community believes in honouring and preserving the heritage of our small town by saving our landmark theatre. We also equally believe today and tomorrow’s children (and all residents) of our town deserve to experience these memories for themselves.

How incredibly valuable will it be to soon have a walkable movie theatre and performance hall in our downtown? We love hearing the memories shared of the days gone by: dance recitals, weddings, grade 8 commencement, all candidates meetings, holiday concerts, and many memories of seeing films with family and friends. Did you know the reception welcoming soldiers back from World War II was held at the Olde Town Hall? When the celebration got so big, they took the piano into the street.

The Olde Town Hall is a place for all. Yet something very special and important to note is when we ask for favourite memories to be recalled, most of the memories shared and cherished are from adults fondly recalling their childhood growing up in rural Ontario. That speaks volumes. Investing in the reopening means investing in a place of belonging, core memories, and a pride of place for children - to create the kind of memories that truly make them feel at home here. That is community building.

I’ve gathered some photos shared to us of the hall. Please dig through your photo albums and boxes and share any photos (interior or exterior) you may have of the Dundalk Olde Town Hall over it’s 121 years! We plan to have a historic exhibit and memory book put together to honour the rich history here, and to give present and future generations the opportunity to dig deep into their roots and feel more connected to the full story of Dundalk.

Let there be light! (Emergency exit lights)
Team Town Hall is grateful today to have the work finalized around the hall in changing batteries of exit lights, installing a brand new emergency light, and having all our fire extinguishers serviced. Thanks to Mike Hiltz for the prompt and professional service.

Dundalk Team Town Hall’s 2nd annual Free Family Day Skate was a huge success! We were supported by donations of hot drinks from Dundalk Foodland and thanks to generous donations at the event, the cost of the ice rental was also covered. We had over 150 participants during our 2 hour ice time who enjoyed skating, facepainting, drawing and mazes, hot drinks, desserts, and memory making with other members of the community! We had a great time seeing everyone and meeting new community members - one family had just moved here 6 weeks ago! Seeing all the smiles on everyone’s faces is what it’s all about! ⛸️🥅🍰☕️🍪

We celebrated a wonderful Family Day together in Dundalk with {over 150 attendees} at our Free Family Skate, hosted by Dundalk Team Town Hall! Everyone seemed to have a great time skating, enjoying desserts and refreshments, drawings and mazes, and facepainting. We would like to thank all attendees for making the event an awesome success and a special thank you to Dundalk Foodland for your generous donation of hot drinks which were enjoyed by all. We were honoured by the attendance from council by our mayor Brian Milne and Deputy Mayor Barbara Dobreen. Lastly, thank you to the volunteers and friends of Team Town Hall: Dianna Boynton Seeley and Will Gorman who helped Team Town Hall with set up and cleanup and running the kitchen. Seeing families making great memories together is what Family Day is all about!
