Toys Toiletries & Toques

Toys Toiletries & Toques Toys Toiletries & Toques collects NEW non-food items to distribute to 7 Food Banks in the Cowichan for our 15th year Covid-19 brought some unique challenges.

Toys Toiletries and Toques is in its 15th year. For the past fourteen years we have operated a program to collect NEW non-food items to distribute to seven Food Banks and organizations in the Cowichan Valley to add to the food contributions of many other hard working organizations. It’s hard to believe that we’ve been assisting our community to have a special holiday season for over a decade! The

pandemic has forced the local Food Banks and Community Resource Centers to change the way they help the community. For our 10th and 11th year, we had to change parts of our donation collections format due to COVID restrictions. Key to our success for the majority of our 14 years was 897 SUN FM and Speedy Glass Duncan. 11 other Drop Off locations worked hard to encourage donors across the Cowichan Valley. All details are available on our website at www.toystoiletriestoques.ca. We are hoping you will consider a donation of either Toys, Toiletries (items like shampoo, toothpaste, toilet paper, etc) and toques, gloves, sweaters and socks, all types of baby supplies, and Toys. Each category plays a strong part in creating a better Christmas / Holiday season for those who need a hand up at this time of year. We happily take hand made donations in this category, but we can only accept NEW non-food items throughout the program. We are now recognized as a 'program' under the Cowichan Valley Basket Society which allows us to provide CRA Tax Receipts to online cash donations. They are several simple ways to donate. Again, please visit our website for full details. We also buy tickets and/or combine donation/purchase of tickets from places like the Cowichan Capitals, or the BC Forest Discovery Centre Christmas Express, or CVRD swimming or skating or basketball and more tickets so families can enjoy a night out during the Holiday season. Portions of cash donations go towards our Ticket campaign. It's our wish that everyone in the Cowichan Valley can enjoy a better holiday season! We are growing, and are currently encouraging applications from volunteers with managerial experience to help us grow furhter. Our Story

Toys Toiletries and Toques collects NEW non-food items for those in need over the holiday season.

For the past nine years we have operated a program to collect new non-food items to distribute equally to the five Food Banks in the Cowichan Valley to add to the food contributions of many other hard working organizations. 2019 was our 9th year. We have completed our ninth year, and with the help of 26 Drop Off locations throughout the Cowichan Valley who have helped to accept NEW non-food donations of toys, toiletries, toques, as well as towels, slippers, toothpaste, you name it! We are hoping to accept even more donations for 2020. We have always said new is best for our program as these donations are meant to add value to needy families that need some support over the holiday season. The Drop Off locations often hold events to increase donations, and promote our program through their own marketing areas. In turn, we support the Drop Off locations and the program heavily through Social Media. We are, after all, the Cowichan Valley Social Media Club! We promote through November and have a final donation and Collection day including a Gourmet Hot Dog sale. We take all donations to a separate storage area, carefully divide them by five for the Five Food Banks in the Cowichan Valley and deliver them out. The Food Banks know their clients and decide who needs toys, who doesn’t, etc.

Any cash donations are used to purchase ‘experiences’. We buy movie tickets, bowling tickets, skating tickets, swimming tickets, etc. et. so families in need can enjoy the holiday season together.

We are also supported by sponsors from various areas of the business community who supply donated radio advertisements on 897 Juice FM , printing services, space to sort donations, insurance help, and more.
