New Class Alert! 📣

The CCWCOOP has a brand new CNC router, and we are now offering classes so folks can use it during open shop time! The CNC is an amazing tool that can cut shapes, grooves, designs, and so much more.

By the end of the class, you will have a better understanding of basic design on the Easel program, which we use in the shop, and how to safely operate the CNC at a beginner level. Each student will leave with a 16"x 8" sign that is made during class.

Are you tired of those pesky swirl marks showing up on your work? Do you want to create better, longer-lasting finishes picked exactly for the type of project you're doing? Then look no further! The incredible Ian, with over 20 years of finishing experience, will take you through how to pick the right type of abrasive for your project, what materials can repair holes and cracks, steaming, creating an indicator stain, power sanding, and how to prep for oil and waterborne finishes.

The Cowichan Community Workshop Co-op is looking for folks aged 19-29 to join the FREE Craft Mentorship Program. Learn to carve with Kwa'kwa'kwakw expert carver Rupert Scow, or to create beautiful objects from rocks and minerals with expert lapidary Angela Bailey.

The first cohort of the 2025-2026 Craft Mentorship Program runs Wednesday evenings from May 14 to June 18 (ages 19-29). Later cohorts will run from July 2025 to February 2026 and are open to anyone aged 14-29.

Today, March 18th, the CCWC is excited to announce that professional print maker Janine Duns will offer a demonstration for attendees at the 50+ Makers Meetup.

"My art practice began after graduating with a printmaking degree at ECCAD in 1984. I went on to further studies in printmaking at the Banff School of the Arts. I’ve exhibited my work mostly in public art galleries and have prints in the permanent collection at Walter Phillips Gallery, SFU Gallery, Richmond Art Gallery. My art is in private and corporate throughout Canada. The last 30 years my studio was in Vancouver and in 2015 made the move to the Cowichan Valley where I continue my creative process. The thread that drives my creative process is the interaction of line and form in nature and human made structure. My recent work uses monotype printmaking methods."

Demo starts at 7 pm in our workshop at 2375 Koksilah Rd in Duncan. Meeting lasts until 9 pm. Light refreshments provided.
