Cause for Critters

Many of our summer babies are ready to find their forever homes via our Fostering to Adopt program. For those that have never heard of our ‘FTA’ program, here is some information:

1. All animals must reach 12 weeks, a safe weight, and have a clear bill of health for us to feel comfortable sending them to their forever home.

2. We never adopt out an animal that is not spayed or neutered, but we understand that some people want to experience their furry family member as a kitten or puppy. So, because 12 weeks old is much too young to alter an animal, we offer the FTA option.

3. The new family brings the animal home to bond with them and enjoy the baby stage, but CFC still holds official ownership over the animal- hence “fostering”. CFC maintains rights to make decisions for the animal concerning medical and wellbeing issues while they start their life with their new family.

4. When the animals is at the right age and healthy weight for alteration, CFC will coordinate a surgery date with the FTA family. Once the animal has been spayed or neutered, official adoption forms will be signed and the animal becomes the sole right and responsibility of their adoptive family.

🐾

How to apply for an animal you see in the FTA program:

We will announce on our page and post within the shelter when an animal is ready to find their forever family. However, unlike the adoptable cats in our cat bay, some younger animals may not be accessible to the public. Therefore, we accept applications for the animal and then offer a meet and greet to the most suitable options. Note: we never approve an adoption without a meet and greet.

As with all adoptions, we aim to do the very best by each animal. So, the applications are never first come, first serve. We take our role seriously to align what we believe to be the best fit for each animal to ensure they have the longest and most loved life possible. 💚

Please reach out if you have any questions!

We are bursting at the seams..

COMMUNITY IMPACT - ANIMAL CONTROL FACILITY AT CAPACITY

Drayton Valley Enforcement Services would like to advise the community that our animal control facility has reached capacity. As a result, we will only be able to provide extremely limited services for animals at large until space becomes available.

We understand the importance of reuniting lost pets with their owners and appreciate the community’s patience and cooperation during this time.

What should you do if you find a lost animal?
If you come across a dog or cat wandering in the community, here are a few steps you can take to help reunite them with their owner:
📸 Take a photo of the animal and share it in local lost-and-found pet groups or community social media pages.
🏡 Ask around the immediate area to see if anyone recognizes the animal or knows its owner.
📱 Check local lost-pet postings to see if someone is already searching for their missing pet.
🏷️ Check for identification if it is safe to do so. A licence tag or identification tag may provide the owner's contact information. A veterinarian or animal rescue may also be able to scan for a microchip.

❤️ Thinking about adding a furry friend to your family?
If you have been considering adopting a pet, now is a great time to reach out to local animal rescues and shelters! Many organizations have wonderful animals looking for loving, responsible homes. Adoption not only changes an animal’s life, but also helps create space and resources for other animals in need.

Please remember that pet ownership is a long-term commitment, and adopting should always be a thoughtful decision.

A little community support goes a long way!

We appreciate everyone who helps keep animals safe, reunites lost pets with their families, and supports local rescue organizations.

Thank you for your understanding as we work through this capacity challenge. We will resume normal service levels as space and resources allow.

Unfortunately, we have had to cancel Paint & Paws due to low registration numbers. We are super disappointed as this event is so fun, and it supports not only our animals, but also a local artist.

One of the best ways to help a non-profit is by attending events and interacting with online fundraisers. Please watch for future posts about what’s coming up and how you can get involved.
