Tuesday, May 5th is Red Dress Day. National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and 2SLGBTQI+ people (MMIWG2S+).
The Healing Garden here in St. Albert holds this display of Red Dresses. It serves as a stark reminder of the disproportionately high rates of violence against Indigenous peoples, with over 63% of Indigenous women experiencing physical or sexual assault.
Please visit and if you feel inclined you can share your thoughts in our community journal. It is in a plastic container near the dresses.
Thank you to everyone who came out this year to help with putting the display up. Special thank you to our Métis matriarch and knowledge keeper Maureen Calahoo. Your blessings, energy and words of love are very much appreciated.

Tuesday is September 30-- National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

The day honours the children who never returned home and Survivors of residential schools, as well as their families and communities.

It is a day to wear orange as a way to say the Every Child Matters.

We encourage you to reflect on your role in Reconciliation and how you can support beyond wearing an orange shirt on September 30th.

City of St. Albert is holding a family friendly event at Mission Park beginning at 12:00pm-4:00.
