Jane Doe is a person, not a trending topic.
There’s a difference between raising awareness and turning someone’s alleged assault into a guessing game, a hot take, or a way to boost your numbers.
Her lawsuit uses the pseudonym Jane Doe, and prosecutors have reopened the investigation. That isn’t a verdict. She deserves privacy and a fair process. Please don’t post names or “I think I found her” claims.
And to the boys watching: learn consent, respect, and how to step in when a friend crosses a line. Women shouldn’t have to become viral stories for boys to learn that.

Where should we draw the line between raising awareness and turning a real person’s pain into content?

"Parents should stay together for the kids.”

Yes or no?

My answer is NO. Not at any cost.

Kids are not a reason to tell someone to swallow hurt, fear, disrespect, or chaos just to keep the adults under one roof. A family picture held together with duct tape and denial is still not peace.

That doesn’t mean every hard season means a relationship has to end. It means staying together should never be treated as automatically best for a child. And “for the kids” should never be used to shut down an honest conversation about safety, respect, and wellbeing.

I’d rather see adults make a hard, thoughtful choice than teach a child that love means staying silent and walking on eggshells.

A family can change shape and still be a family. The kids shouldn’t be made responsible for holding the adults together.

So, yes or no: should parents stay together for the kids?

❤️ RED THREAD STATUS UPDATE ❤️

Here’s where we are right now:
We are still working toward second-stage housing in Northern Ontario where women, children and their pets can safely rebuild after leaving violence.
But women need safety before the refuge opens.

A hotel partner has stepped forward, and we are raising $6,000 to provide approximately 35 safe hotel nights for women who have nowhere safe to go.
We've also built free, private safety resources, a free teen course and practical dating-safety education that people can access right now.
This is real progress. But progress needs people behind it.

Your values need to survive being inconvenienced.

Kindness when you’re irritated.
Respect when you disagree. Accountability when you’re the one who screwed up.

And yes, I’m asking myself this too. 👀

It’s easy to call yourself caring, honest, or supportive. The uncomfortable part is noticing where your own behaviour needs work, especially when you’ve got a really good excuse ready.
Make the apology. Keep the promise. Check on the person. Help without needing an audience.

How many times did you swallow what hurt, lower a boundary, apologize when you weren’t wrong, or convince yourself you were “too much” just to keep someone from leaving?

That isn’t love.

Love should not require you to slowly disappear.
And sometimes the hardest part isn’t recognizing what someone else is doing to you. It’s realizing how long you’ve been betraying your own instincts just to keep the peace....

If this question hit somewhere uncomfortable, don’t scroll past that feeling.

Start there.

Learn the warning signs. Read. Take your time. Make a plan. Reach out when you’re ready.

Red Thread Emergency Safe Stay This program will provide a confidential 1 - 7 night hotel bridge for women and children escaping intimate-partner violence while they work toward their next safe step.

Our initial launch goal is $6,000.

That could fund approximately 35 safe hotel nights; the equivalent of five seven-night stays.
❤️ $10 helps build the fund
❤️ $50 helps cover part of a safe night
❤️ $170 can fund approximately one safe hotel night when processing fees are covered

Safe Stay is not yet accepting placement requests. We are raising the money now so the fund is ready when the agreement and hotel account are finalized.

🧵 WHERE YOUR BRAIDS FOR A CAUSE FUNDS ARE GOING💸
Braids for a Cause raised $1,026 for Red Thread Refuge Society before final event expenses.
After those expenses are accounted for, $491.06 will be used to file the Canadian trademark for RED THREAD SAFE STOP, our developing safety education and training program.
The remaining net proceeds will support our Foundation Fund, including program development, legal and governance needs, insurance, accounting, outreach and grant preparation.
Every donation helps us keep pushing forward and building RTRS responsibly.
Our website is also much more than a place to donate. It offers safety tools, healing resources, help finding support, information for people leaving with pets and guidance for helping someone else.

Braids for a Cause raised 1,026$ for Red Thread Refuge Society.

I want to share that number openly because transparency matters to me. Every dollar raised came from the people who showed up, got their hair braided, supported vendors, in-kind donations, all who volunteered, shared our posts, and believed in this little red thread of an idea.

That 1,026$ is the total raised from the event before any final event expenses are deducted. Once every receipt and remaining cost is finalized, I will share a simple breakdown of what came in, what went out, and what is left to put directly toward building Red Thread Refuge Society.

RTRS is still in its early stages... but we all have to start somewhere, right?

Right now, funds help cover the real behind-the-scenes work that has to happen before we can create something bigger: outreach, website and resource tools, printing, meetings, grant preparation, legal and governance needs, and building the foundation for a safe place where women, children, and pets are not turned away when they need help most.
We need to restore dignity and show these women that they're not alone, they deserve to be safe and feel cared for.

1,026$ may not sound like millions to some people, but to me it means 1,026 reasons not to stop.

These are not “just statistics.”
In 2024 alone, police in Canada recorded 128,175 victims of intimate partner violence.
78% were women and girls.
In Ontario, the rate of police-reported intimate partner violence rose from 233 victims per 100,000 people in 2018 to 278 in 2024.
Nearly half of victims were living with the accused when the violence happened....
Also in 2024, 42% of women killed in Canada were killed by a spouse or intimate partner.
Read that again!
Home is supposed to be where you are safest. For far too many women and children, its where they are most afraid.
To top it off, these numbers only reflect violence that reached police. We know MANY survivors never report, because reporting can feel dangerous, impossible, or pointless when there is literally nowhere safe to go after.

This is why Red Thread Refuge Society exists.
We need more than awareness posts after someone is hurt or killed.
We need real housing, safe exits, trauma-informed support, protection for children AND PETS, because i know for a fact that most people treat their pets like family... Imagine, you have to leave your home, could you leave your pet?
So we NEED a community willing to act before its too late.
A survivor shouldn't have to choose between abuse, homelessness, losing their children, or leaving their pets behind. 😢
