The City of Calgary takes a proactive approach to protecting, replacing, and upgrading aging assets. The water main replacement program reduces emergency water main breaks and service interruptions by replacing corroded mains with new PVC pipe and adding protective measures to reduce future corrosion. Since 1980, this program has contributed to a 73 percent decrease in emergency water main repairs.
We will be installing a new water main on 14 Avenue S.E. between 15 Street S.E. and 16A Street S.E. We'll also connect to the adjacent water mains at each intersection of those streets in order to increase the distribution system’s capacity in this area.
Where and When
Work is expected to begin the week of August 17, 2026, and will take approximately four weeks to complete (end of September, 2026). Residents will see construction crews installing temporary water hoses in advance of this work, so there will be no disruption to water during construction.
Citizen and business impacts
Temporary parking restrictions, lane restrictions, restricted access to driveways/back lane, construction truck traffic, vibrations, noise and dust.
