Dear Scouting family:
It is with heavy hearts that we announce that after more than 30 years, ‘Lord Spade-N-Trowel’ has unpacked from camp for the last time. Dorchester Friendship Camp, with groundhog mascot Lord Spade-N- Trowel, will not return to Camp BEL for future years. The camp, held annually each year in October for Scout & Guide aged youth, is the latest victim of Covid-19 and Scouts Canada’s new policies. Your Co-Camp Chiefs still plan to be involved with Camp BEL in other capacities, but the timing is right for both of us. A small team of Camp BEL volunteers have been tirelessly working to keep the camp maintained throughout the pandemic, while dealing with new requirements to reopen the camp and to run this type of events.
Thank you to all the Scouters & troops that have attended our camp in the past, it was a delight to welcome you each year and see many familiar faces. We always strived to bring new elements that still included Scouting skills to the camp, and enjoyed seeing your youth meet the challenge. To all of those who have worked as staff with us in the past, we hope to see you at other Dorchester events in the future, but thank you so much for your time, sweat, and camaraderie. There is an incredible team of people at Camp BEL who put much time and effort into the camp and the events, and it has been great to get to know you more and learn from you. We hope to still support in other roles, and hopefully step foot on the property that is a second home to us sometime soon.
All the best,
Co-Camp Chiefs
