2025 was by far the biggest year for Maritimes Against Climate Change! From hosting marches and cleanups to attending various festivals, rallies and fairs, we sure had fun doing many things for the sake of protecting the environment. We also enjoyed meeting many people from other organizations, volunteering for them and promoting their good work. We are glad that we and many other passionate people were able to lead a fight against the proposed Tantramar gas plant and raise awareness about other environmental issues.

As we reflect on the great things we have done in 2025, we would like to thank everyone who has joined us or helped us in any way. We would also like to thank everyone who continues to fight against the causes of climate change and advocates for a green future.

With talks about the Tantramar gas plant possibly powering a very energy-demanding AI data centre in St-John, we must continue to fight for clean energy in 2026. However, we do not know what 2026 will look like for Maritimes Against Climate Change as our leader Sylvain is currently dedicated to working full-time for NB ACORN. Although Sylvain is not working on Maritimes Against Climate Change at the moment, he will continue fighting for a clean environment, affordable energy and the rights of low and moderate income people with NB ACORN. We would like to wish everyone a very happy New Year and a great 2026! 🎊

We had fun attending a few workshops and talking with people from different organizations at the info fair. Thank you to everyone who made it possible! It’s important that activists connect, speak about different social issues and share community-based solutions for a better New-Brunswick!

Here are some photos of last weekend’s Sackville Fall fair! At our booth, we worked with a member of Divest Mount Allison to have kids draw on a banner which will be used at a rally against the Tantramar gas plant. We also taught kids about greenhouse gases with an activity and talked to many people about climate change initiatives in New Brunswick. We also connected with the other organizations and associations there like Seniors for Climate-NB, the Canadian Association of Physicians for the Environment (NB), the Coalition for Responsible Energy Development in NB, the Conservation Council of NB, CLIMAtlantic, the NB Anti Shale Gas Alliance, the Red Rebels, Atlantic Wildlife Institute, EOS ECO-Energy, Nature NB and the Tantramar Climate Change Advisory Committee. It was such a great day and thanks to everyone who came!

NB Power is collaborating with US company ProEnergy to build a (new!) gas power plant in Tantramar, offering no reassurance that this will lower our rates, create local jobs or bring sustainability to our environment. We are putting our foot down, on 📣 Saturday, September 27th at 1pm in front of 515 King St, Fredericton!📣

Demand NB Power explore real solutions, and stop rushing into a deal with the pro-Trump oil and gas industry south of the border.
https://acorncanada.org/take_action/pullbackfromtheprotrumpgasplantdeal/

On s'y oppose fermement ! On se rassemble 📣 samedi, le 27 septembre à 13h devant 515 rue King à Fredericton! 📣

Peaceful march in Sackville this Saturday to raise awareness about the proposed Tantramar gas plant! We will be there to march in solidarity! Details below 👇

On behalf of the 'Stop the Tantramar Gas Plant' site... MARCH FOR OUR FUTURE - PROTECT THE CHIGNECTO ISTHMUS!
When: Saturday, September 13th, 2025
Time: 1:00–4:00pm
Where: Bill Johnson Memorial Park, Sackville, NB
Together, let’s march in large, united groups through Sackville to raise awareness and build support against the proposed gas plant in Centre Village, and on the Chignecto Isthmus. These projects threaten our wetlands, our environment, and our community’s future — and we are coming together to say: there’s a better way forward!

This is not a protest. Our local politicians stand with us already— this is a peaceful march to bring awareness and gain community support!

We will all meet at Bill Johnson Memorial Park at 1:00pm, then break into large walking groups. Route directions for each group will be provided at the park. Families, youth, and community members of all ages are encouraged to join! Bring your creativity with signs, banners, and art (respectful and appropriate).

Peaceful March Guidelines:
Walk proudly and peacefully — no horns, no distractive yelling
Stay visible in large groups — we want Sackville to notice!
Be respectful to onlookers, residents, and businesses.
Follow traffic rules and stay safe.
Keep the energy positive, united, and strong.
Stay on the public sidewalks, and public spaces.
Every step we take is a step toward protecting our home.

Join us September 13th — your presence matters!
Peaceful. Respectful. Powerful.

Wear your blue and green to stand out and represent our group!
*Rain date will be arranged if weather does not cooperate.
