The law restricting the right to strike has been deemed ineffective

The FTQ welcomes the decision of the Administrative Labour Tribunal (TAT). The FTQ calls on the current Attorney General of Quebec, as well as his or her successor, to respect this decision. The FTQ also calls on the newly elected government to honour its commitment to review Bill 14 and to resume social dialogue.

“Quebec has a tradition of labour relations that works. More than 92% of negotiations are concluded without a work stoppage.
There was no problem that needed fixing, yet the legislation has created one.
We are extending a hand to the new government to set things right.

What we have been denouncing ever since the bill was tabled has now been confirmed by the Tribunal with stark findings: the system gives employers a tool to stall and play for time, rather than to negotiate, and it deprives workers of their only real leverage – the strike.
This is a victory for workers and for the general public, who benefit from the gains made by trade unions in improving working conditions.”

Magali Picard, President of the FTQ

🧡 National Day for Truth and Reconciliation 🧡

Today, September 30, SEPB 577 joins people across Canada in recognizing the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

We honour the children who never returned home, the Survivors of residential schools, their families, and their communities. We acknowledge the painful and lasting impacts of the residential school system and the injustices experienced by Indigenous Peoples.

Truth must come before reconciliation. Today is a day to listen, to learn, to reflect, and to remember that reconciliation is not limited to one day—it is an ongoing responsibility we all share.

As a union, we believe in dignity, respect, equality, and standing together against injustice. We remain committed to learning and to being part of the path toward meaningful reconciliation.

Every Child Matters. 🧡

Yesterday, the Québec government introduced Bill 8, which would limit access to English-language Adult Education and Vocational Training programs to students with English-language education rights.

Why does this matter?

• Because Adult Education and Vocational Training programs help people finish high school, learn a trade, retrain for a new career, and gain the skills they need to succeed.

• Because restricting access could create barriers for adult learners, newcomers, and others seeking a second chance through education.

• Because these programs help address labour shortages in important sectors such as health care, construction, information technology, and skilled trades.

We believe it is possible to protect and promote the French language while preserving pathways that help people graduate, gain skills, and contribute to Quebec's economy.
