Royal Canadian Marine Search and Rescue, Station 8 - Delta, supported by the Delta Marine Rescue Society has been providing Marine Search and Rescue services and Boating Safety education in South Delta since 1976. Our all-volunteer organization provides Search and Rescue services 365 days per year, 24 hours per day in an area covering approximately 600 square miles of the Salish Sea. The area is t

raveled extensively by BC Ferries, tugs and barges, cruise ships, freighters and tankers, local fishing and pleasure craft from large yachts to small craft such as dinghies, canoes and kayaks and kite boards. Additionally, the close proximity of the busy Vancouver International and Boundary Bay Airports and subsequent commercial and recreational flights over the area means the number of people passing through or over our area of responsibility is very high. Our fast-response rescue boat is based at the Point Roberts Marina in Point Roberts Washington, for quick access to the weather-beaten Strait of Georgia and the surrounding area.

We were honoured to be asked to provide water safety support for Wings Over White Rock, celebrating the 55th anniversary of the Canadian Forces Snowbirds. 🇨🇦✈️

The Snowbirds will be retiring their current aircraft at the end of the 2026 season, making this year’s celebrations especially meaningful.

The 45-minute show was absolutely incredible! Watching these highly skilled pilots perform with such precision and confidence is a true testament to their exceptional talent, dedication, and the countless hours of training behind every manoeuvre.

It was a privilege to be on the water supporting this special event and to witness such an amazing display of Canadian aviation excellence. ❤️🇨🇦

Today we celebrate the people, communities, and coastlines that make Canada such an incredible place to call home.

From all of us at RCMSAR 08 Delta, we wish everyone a safe and enjoyable Canada Day. Whether you’re spending the day on the water, at the beach, or with family and friends, please make safety part of your celebration.

Remember to wear your lifejacket, check the marine forecast before heading out, ensure your vessel is properly equipped, and always let someone know your plans.

Our dedicated volunteers are proud to serve our community 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Thank you to our fellow emergency responders, our supporters, and everyone who helps keep our waterways safe.

On the morning of June 28, the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre JRCC Victoria tasked Royal Canadian Marine Search and Rescue RCMSAR Station 6 Richmond to respond to an active distress incident involving a fishing vessel that capsized southwest of Sturgeon Bank in the Strait of Georgia.

RCMSAR 8 Delta joined RCMSAR Richmond 6 and RCMSAR Richmond 7 in a coordinated search for reported persons in the water. Search and rescue operations were conducted alongside the Canadian Coast Guard, the RCMP, the Royal Canadian Air Force, and numerous vessels of opportunity.

Our thoughts are with the families, friends, and communities of those involved in this tragic incident.

We ask that anyone operating on the water in the coming days remain vigilant, as debris or other items related to the incident may still be present in the area. Any observations of concern should be reported immediately to the Canadian Coast Guard through Marine Communications and Traffic Services MCTS on VHF Channel 16 or by dialing *16 from a cellular phone. If lives are in immediate danger, a Mayday call should be made on VHF Channel 16 without delay.

This incident serves as a solemn reminder of the importance of marine safety. RCMSAR encourages all boaters to wear a properly fitted lifejacket, ensure all required safety equipment is onboard and serviceable, and carefully assess weather and local conditions before departing.

Further inquiries regarding the incident should be directed to the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre JRCC Victoria, the lead agency coordinating the response.
