Latino Workers Support Society LWSS builds pathways that connect isolated foreign workers with a supportive community.

Jon and I, Kim, are starting this page to communicate with members of the community what activities and needs the Guatemalan and Mexican workers have here on our community. We are members of Cedar Park Church and rely on working with the church family to support these workers. For those who don't know us yet, Jon is a Guatemalan, and I am from Ladner. We met and married in Guatemala but life circu

mstances brought us back to Ladner. When Jon heard there were Guatemalans here in the community it became clear that God has brought us here for a purpose. Jon is excited to serve his people in any way and part of that is making the workers feel accepted and loved in our community.

Easter is an important time of year for many people around the world. It’s a moment to reflect on the life of Jesus — and the reality that He willingly gave His life on the cross.

In the Latin American culture this an especially meaningful holiday.

Jesus didn’t die by accident. It was a path He chose, even knowing it would be painful. Along the way, He experienced stress, rejection, and loneliness… things many of us understand in our own lives.

But His journey had a purpose: love.
Through His death, He made a way for forgiveness, hope, and a new beginning.

Life can feel heavy sometimes, but this reminds us that even in the hardest seasons, there is still purpose — and we’re not alone.

• Large suitcases (good condition, wheels working)
• Bikes (even if they need light repair)
• Small kitchen items like dishes, pots, and pans (good condition)

👉Una demanda colectiva en Canadá podría cambiar las condiciones laborales de miles de trabajadores agrícolas migrantes, muchos de ellos provenientes de México y Guatemala. Un juez en Ontario autorizó que el caso avance a juicio contra el gobierno federal en relación con el funcionamiento del Programa de Trabajadores Agrícolas Temporales.

▪La acción legal cuenta con el respaldo de aproximadamente 75,000 trabajadores agrícolas que han participado en el programa desde 2008. La demanda argumenta que el gobierno recauda contribuciones al seguro de empleo, conocido como Employment Insurance (EI), de estos trabajadores, aunque en muchos casos ellos no pueden acceder a esos beneficios cuando los necesitan.

👉El caso también cuestiona ciertas condiciones del programa, señalando que los permisos de trabajo están ligados a un solo empleador, que los trabajadores no siempre pueden elegir dónde vivir y que, si se enferman o sufren una lesión, pueden regresar a los trabajadores a su país de origen.

▪Mientras el gobierno sostiene que el programa es legal, el avance de esta demanda colectiva podría llevar el tema a juicio y reabrir el debate sobre los derechos y beneficios de los trabajadores agrícolas migrantes en Canadá.
