Traditional food, friendly competition, and community connections at the LWSS Annual Lawn Bowling Event 💚

We enjoyed authentic Mexican tacos and a day of sports at Ladner Lawn Bowling Club just ahead of Guatemalan and Mexican Independence Days. A surprise trivia game also brought Canadians and workers from Mexico and Guatemala together for some extra fun!

Thank you to the club for welcoming us and creating a wonderful opportunity to connect and have fun together!

Moments from our annual 2026 LWSS Summer Soccer Tournament 📸

Congratulations to the top teams:

🏆 Champions: El Shaddai - Village Farms
🥈 2nd: Los Paisas - West Coast
🥉 3rd: CanaLatin - Mixed Local Team

More than 160 players took part this summer, and the tournament quickly became something to work toward each week. Our players took great pride in representing their workplaces, with coworkers, staff, and company owners cheering them on. The championship trophy will be proudly displayed at Village Farms, and the medals earned by players will stand as an achievement to share with their families in Mexico and Guatemala.

For workers spending months away from home, these Sundays offered more than a game. They provided a space to build valuable friendships and community bonds.

A special thank you to Rat Rod’s Dogs for being our dedicated food truck throughout the tournament, and to the City of Delta Community Grants Program for helping make this summer possible.

Thank you to our players and volunteers for making a memorable season!

At LWSS, we help temporary foreign workers in our community feel welcomed, supported, and connected. Guided by our mission to improve their quality of spirit and quality of life, we offer faith-based spiritual growth opportunities, practical support services, essential items, English classes, and recreational activities and celebrations. Through these connections, we foster belonging, joy, and overall well-being. As a non-profit that depends on donations, we rely on community generosity to make this work possible.

Donate today through our website. Your donation helps create a more welcoming community for temporary foreign workers.

Take heart, everyone. We extend our deepest condolences for our friend and brother Edy, better known as Pichy. I think we all recognized his talent on the soccer field. He participated in our summer soccer tournament for several years, representing the Wescoast Farm. Sadly, he tragically died in the helicopter crash in Los Angeles last week.

Several temporary foreign workers working in the Summerland area had to be evacuated along with all the other residents but, of course, they had no where to go. This organization is working hard to support them during this time.
