Luke 15:11-32 // In this parable, Jesus shows God's heart for the lost sinners through the character of the compassionate father, and he rebukes the self-righteous leaders who do not value the lives of those who are lost. SDBC will be launching DivorceCare on September 10th at 6:30PM. This is a Christian program that runs over thirteen weeks in a format somewhat similar to Alpha. In our blog this week, we get to hear from Dennis, who took part in this program, and he details how it helped him through a very difficult time in his life. Matthew 20:1-16 // In Matthew 20:1-16, Jesus tells the Parable of the Labourers in the Vineyard in response to a revealing question from Peter: “We have left everything and followed you. What then will we have?” Through this surprising parable, Jesus challenges his disciples to see that God's kingdom operates very differently from the kingdoms of this world. The generosity of the vineyard owner reveals the incredible grace and goodness of God, while the reaction of the labourers exposes the danger of comparison, envy, and calculating what we think we deserve. As 21st-century disciples of Jesus, this parable challenges our thinking about fairness, merit, comparison, and ultimately what it means to follow Jesus.

On September 13th, we will be launching a four-week sermon series called, Radically Generous: Joyful Obligation. We are excited to study God's word and learn what it says about our relationship with money, and more importantly, how our financial practices reflect our relationship with God.

This Thursday (August 20th) from 6:30-8:30PM, SDBC Young Adults is transforming the church into a custom mini golf course! Grab a putter, make your way through the course with friends, and enjoy refreshments from our roaming snack shack along the way.

This will be a fun, relaxed evening that's perfect for connecting with others, meeting new people, and inviting a friend to join you. We hope to see you and your friends on the course!
