Pride Month is celebrated annually in June to honor the 1969 Stonewall riots - one of the first uprisings to achieve equal justice, opportunity and human rights for the Pride community. In Canada, the first 2SLGBTQ+ demonstration (the We Demand Rally) took place in Ottawa and Vancouver in August 1971.
Raising or displaying a Pride flag is a sign of solidarity, inclusion and support of our 2SLGBTQ+ community.
Globally, trans and q***r people continue to face discrimination, exclusion, and stigma. In the US and Canada we see far too many examples of resources, medical care and human rights being stripped from the Pride community.
All people, regardless of sexual orientation and gender identity, are entitled to equal rights and dignity. These are the principles set out in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
Trans rights are human rights and the community needs allyship. Allyship isnβt passive, but active and we encourage everyone to join us in a commitment to listen, learn and step into greater allyship, education, understanding and empathy for truly all.
Delta Pride Society reaffirms our commitment to support, encourage, uplift and advocate for the 2SLGBTQ+ community and their allies.
We recognize all q***r and trans people who live their truth every day. We acknowledge those who are not out or not safe to be out. There is immense beauty in our diversity and we celebrate that!
