The Community Foundation Announces the New “G and C Waddington Dementia and Mental Health Fund”

Thanks to a very generous initial contribution by Geoffrey and Caroline Waddington, we are very pleased to announce that a new Endowment Fund has been created.
Like many people have and do, Caroline and Geoff have experienced both dementia and mental illness within their extended families. They understand the toll dementia and mental illness takes on both the individual who lives with the condition as well as the people who care for them. The purpose of the Fund that they are setting up with the Community Foundation is to support individuals living with dementia and other mental illnesses and their caregivers.

Caroline and Geoff moved to Deep River in 1993 from the Toronto area where they both started their careers. Upon arriving in Deep River Caroline continued her teaching career with the Renfrew County District School Board while Geoff started working as a thermal hydraulics specialist at CNL. Caroline retired from Mackenzie Community School in June 2024 and Geoff will retire from CNL in October 2026.
While living in our community, both Geoff and Caroline have consistently volunteered their talents to many organizations and clubs. Their desire to build a supportive and caring environment to help individuals and families when they most need it led to the creation of this Endowment Fund.

Thanks to the generosity and commitment of our donors, the DRDCF now manages over two million dollars in endowment capital. To better serve our community and judge its needs, the DRDCF encourages the participation of community members in its decision making processes and continuously engages in consultation and supporting partnerships which build community vitality through a shared vision and mutual responsibility.

THE FINAL 2026 SPRING GRANT CYCLE RECIPIENT (Part 4)

On June 3, the Deep River and District Community Foundation (DRDCF) announced the seven Grants totalling over $41,000 that were awarded in our 2026 Spring Grant Cycle. These grants support a variety of projects in the Categories of Environment, Community, Arts & Education, Social Services, and Health. The grants for Spring 2026 were presented to:
1 - The Deep River and Area Horticultural Society (DRAHS) / The Town of Deep River
2 - Rolph, Buchanan, Wylie and McKay Historical Society (School House Museum)
3 - Deep River Public Library and THEOP
4 - Renfrew County District School Board
5 - North Renfrew Family Services (NRFS) / Upper Ottawa Valley Seniors Friendship Club (UOVSFC)
6 - Les Maisons des Jeunes du Pontiac
7 - The Town of Deep River

The Summerfest Pavilion will be a pre-fabricated post and beam, open-air structure, with a cement slab and steel roof, situated on the waterfront campus grounds of downtown Deep River.

The Pavilion will be utilized biannually for Summerfest events. Summerfest is a music and cultural festival, featuring local artists and artisans as well as those from throughout the Ottawa Valley. It brings together the community for a weekend of celebration and activity during the first weekend of August.
The pavilion can also be used throughout the year as a gathering spot for celebrations, for viewing sports events on the campus field and for providing shade on hot, sunny days.

As part of our AGM2026, we were honoured by the stories of some of our Grant
Recipients and how our Foundation has generously helped them achieve their goals!
For our Scholarships, we have provided 84 Students since 2002 with a total of $80,940.00 in funding for their schooling. And in our 24 years, we have provided a total of 311 Grants to a variety of organizations (some showcased in this video) for a total of $906,902.12!!
