We are pleased to announce this year's Open Sky Exhibition adjudicators, Genevieve Robertson and Candace Sanderson.
Genevieve Robertson (she/her) is an interdisciplinary artist of mixed European settler ancestry. Her practice is grounded in drawing/painting, and extends to video, installation, and various forms of collective work and collaboration. Studio and fieldwork are of equal importance: she often focuses on ecosystems such as watersheds, old growth forests, wildfire sites and marine shorelines as a means of engaging in intuitive, materially driven and place-informed practice. Genevieve holds a BFA from NSCAD University (2009) and an MFA from Emily Carr University (2016). She teaches part-time, and has been supported through exhibitions, publications, conferences and residencies internationally. She currently lives and works in the West Kootenays, on the unceded territory of the sn̓ʕay̓ckstx (Sinixt) Arrow Lakes and Yaqan Nukiy peoples.
As a multidisciplinary sculptor, Candace Sanderson (b. 1972) relies on materiality as an essential element of her practice. Focusing on texture, contrast, and scale, she utilizes a variety of media, materials, and techniques to shape her ideas, creating sculptures that are more than their physical form. Executed with technical precision and rigor, her works become an expressive language in themselves, inviting viewers to explore their own inherently subjective experiences.
Thank you to Genevieve and Candace; we can't wait to hear their thoughts on all the work they will be judging! Please stay tuned for results.
