Dawson Creek Choral Society

Dawson Creek Choral Society Our programs connect a vibrant network of like-minded individuals who know music has the power to impact lives all around us.

The Dawson Creek Choral Society is a provincially registered non-profit providing music education opportunities in the South Peace region. Our programs are the key to connecting a vibrant network of like-minded individuals who believe that music has the power to impact lives all around us. We’re a busy organization with many fundraisers and community events working year-round. OUR PROGRAMS

KINDER

MUSIK - An internationally accredited program for children aged 0-5 and their caregivers. Classes are specifically designed to capture the curiosity and energy of preschoolers and catapult them to school readiness. Kindermusik uses music to showcase benefits in literacy, numeracy, physical awareness, self-regulation, independence, bonding, and more. CHOIR - Divided into four age divisions starting with the youngest singers at 5 years old. Each group meets on a weekly basis, and gets to work on music fitting a variety of themes and exciting styles. Choir, to us, is a vehicle for not only musical excellence, but for developing community, humanity, harmony, and empathy. Singing has a ton of physical benefits too! MUSICAL THEATRE - *Returning Fall 2025* Musical Theatre is an energetic intensive program for youth aged 9 to 15. Students are mentored in their abilities to sing, act, dance, and perform in fully-staged musical theatre productions. We believe that acting is reacting, and teach performers to engage with their costars onstage and with their audience, delivering a spectacular experience for all. COMMUNITY - Outside of our main program activities, the Dawson Creek Choral Society is an advocate for the arts and cultural scene in our region. We believe in building a better world for future generations, and do so by connecting with local partners to respond to needs in our community. We volunteer, fundraise, and use our events to amplify the many voices of our community and our members.

We've added another option for the Performance Intensive camp this summer! The original plan was for July 27th to 31st, but when you register you can let us know if July 6-10 also works for you. If there's enough numbers to run both weeks, we'll do it!

Over the course of these 5 days, students will work on solo and group expression techniques, body and facial responsiveness on stage, vocal techniques, acting skills, and more! The group classes will run 10am to 1pm each day, and each student will also get 2 half-hour voice lessons (in the afternoons) over the course of the week.

By the end of the camp we'll have polished two to three group numbers and a solo for each child, to be shared in a showcase performance the following week.

This program is eligible for funding from the Dawson Creek Arts and Wellness Society - If you'd benefit from some support to access this program, all you need to do is register with us and submit an application to https://dcartsandwellness.ca

SUMMER 2026!

We'll be running a few short-term summer programs during July, as well as launching a new group singing program "Many Voices" which will run year-round on a quarterly basis. More information at: https://dcchoralsociety.ca/choir/manyvoices/

PERFORMANCE INTENSIVE
Vocal and theatrical camp for ages 9 to 12, running July 27th to 31st. This will be a great opportunity for both budding performers and seasoned theatre junkies to brush up on essential skills prior to the show season. Also great for choral or solo singers to gain confidence and foundational skills for strong performance practice. More info and register at: https://dcchoralsociety.ca/theatre/

KINDERMUSIK
Twice a week for two weeks, this mini session will be a great introduction to the Kindermusik experience! Units have been chosen to line up with fun adventure themes meant to build confidence and vocabulary for your littles to thrive this summer.

From Foundations to Level 2, little ones practice independence and various forms of physical, musical, and cognitive literacy with the security of their caregiver helping them every step of the way. Levels 3 and 4 add unparented independence, with 30 minutes of kiddos only followed by a Sharing Time where they can show off their new skills and creativity.

🍎Level 4 builds school-readiness for those kiddos headed to kindergarten this fall - learn to work together in a group setting, practice turn-taking, read and understand abstract symbols, and celebrate creativity.
