Fiends of Dauphin Lake 2026 Update
The Friends of Dauphin Lake committee has began planning for the operation of the w**d harvester this summer. We are in the process of providing the Department of Fisheries and Oceans with the information they require to renew our operating permit. It is our goal to operate the harvester beginning mid to late June until early to mid August (timeframes are dictated by the Department of Fisheries and Oceans). Between now and then, a few things need to occur.
Harvester Upgrades and Maintenance - The harvester requires regular maintenance and a few upgrades that will enhance the operation and safety of the boat.
Boat Operation - The Friends of Dauphin Lake have been approved for a summer position that will allow us to hire a young person (under age 30) for about 8 weeks. The position will be paid $18/hour and will be responsible for the day-to-day operation of the harvester, organizing volunteers, basic boat maintenance and a variety of other duties as needed. The individual hired will receive any necessary training and orientation. If you are aware of anyone interested in this position, have them submit a resume to The Friends of Dauphin Lake at [email protected]
Need for Volunteers - The daily operation of the w**d harvester relies on a consistent group of volunteers that will work with our staff person. The harvester requires a minimum of 2 people at a time to safely operate the boat. While we have a small group of dedicated volunteers, we require more if we want to operate the boat more consistently. Individuals who are interested should send an email to [email protected]. All volunteers will receive mandatory training.
Donations - We require ongoing funding to support the operation and maintenance of the harvester. Our initial fundraising drive generated sufficient funds to allow us to purchase the harvester and get it operational and cover the first year's operational and maintenance costs. Additional dollars are required for ongoing costs (fuel, maintenance, upgrades, student wages, etc). The Friends of Dauphin Lake is incorporated as a not-for-profit organization with the Canada Revenue Agency which provides it charitable status so all donations to support the harvester will receive a charitable donation tax receipt. Donations can be sent to the attention of Marion Pernarowski, Box 445 Dauphin, Manitoba R7N 2V3. They can also be dropped off at the MNP Office, 32 2nd Avenue SW, Dauphin or given to any Friends of Dauphin Lake board member.
