FOR ADOPTION
💛 Meet Reggie — Small Dog, Big Personality
Reggie is an 8-year-old Chihuahua–terrier mix with a whole lot of character packed into a tiny body. This handsome boy is being surrendered because the arrival of a new baby has been overwhelming for him, and he has shown that he is not comfortable around young children. He has snapped when feeling stressed, and his family wants to ensure he finds a home that better suits his needs.
Reggie is a wonderfully communicative dog. He’s not one to bottle things up — he’ll give you a growl or lip lift to let you know when his boundaries are being crossed. To him, that’s just honest conversation. An experienced dog owner will appreciate that he warns, rather than surprises. (And yes, he is the king of side-eye — he is very expressive.)
He also struggles with anxiety and does not do well with other dogs. He tends to growl or snap when another dog gets too close, so he will need to be the only pet in the home. He’s also not suited for a home with small children.
Reggie does have some resource guarding, especially around cozy things like bedding or places he feels secure. Structure and clear routines will go a long way in helping him feel less worried about losing his comforts.
But here’s the part you’ll love: when Reggie feels safe, he is delightful. He’s bright, funny, loyal in that tiny-dog way, and incredibly smart. He thrives when his brain is busy — playing ball, doing crate games, working through puzzle toys, or practicing little training tasks. He loves mental stimulation and exercise, and lights up when he has a job to do.
Reggie also:
• Can be left alone and is used to being crated when his people are at work
• Enjoys routine and predictability
• Bonds strongly with “his” person
• Responds really well to verbal praise — his love language is words of affirmation
• Will absolutely make you laugh with his dramatic side-eye and strong opinions
Reggie needs:
• An adult-only home with someone experienced with small dogs who have boundaries
• No dogs, no cats, no young kids
• A person who enjoys training, enrichment, and using their dog’s brain
• A patient, reassuring environment to help ease his anxiety
With the right person, Reggie will be an incredibly rewarding companion — clever, devoted, funny, and full of personality. He’s not a “starter dog,” but he is the perfect match for someone who loves a dog with quirks, communication skills, and a big heart under all that sass.
If you’re that person, Reggie is waiting. Contact Kathleen at [email protected].
