💛 Thank you, Shelter Nova Scotia! 💛
We’re deeply honoured to be recognized as a Community Champion by Shelter Nova Scotia. Our partnership over the years has meant so much to each of us at Dartmouth East Rotary, it’s a reminder that small, consistent acts of service can make a lasting impact.
Preparing meals, lending a hand, and supporting essential needs like clothing and comfort items are ways we live our Rotary motto, Service Above Self. But truly, the gratitude belongs to the incredible team at Shelter Nova Scotia. The work you do every single day brings dignity, hope, and humanity to so many in our community.
To everyone at Shelter Nova Scotia: thank you for letting us be part of your mission.
And to our fellow Rotarians, here’s to continuing to show up, month after month, with compassion and purpose. 💙💛
⭐ Community Champion: Rotary Club of Dartmouth East ⭐
This month, we’re proud to recognize the Rotary Club of Dartmouth East as Shelter Nova Scotia’s Community Champions — a title well-earned through years of compassionate and consistent service.
This small but incredibly dedicated club of just 12 members has been volunteering with us for over seven years. Each month, they take turns preparing and serving home-cooked meals at Metro Turning Point, our emergency shelter for individuals who identify as male in Halifax. Their commitment to consistently showing up, month after month, has made a meaningful sense of community to the people we serve.
The Rotary Club has also made multiple generous donations of new men’s and women’s underwear — an often-overlooked item that is always in high demand in our shelters. What truly stood out to us was their approach: they asked what was needed most, showing a genuine desire to understand. Our needs are frequently changing, so that kind of thoughtfulness is deeply appreciated.
We told them underwear was a priority — and they delivered, not just once, but again and again. It’s a simple item that has a big impact on someone’s comfort and confidence, and it’s made a big difference.
Rotary member Linda Smardon shared:
“What we all have in common is a desire to be part of a community where people are not left behind. Community isn’t defined by borders—it’s defined by compassion.”
We’re incredibly grateful to the Rotary Club of Dartmouth East for their kindness, responsiveness, and unwavering support. You truly embody what it means to be a community champion.
