CavUnity is officially beginning a new operational year, and we are excited to welcome our members, returning and new, to the 2026–2027 operational year.

Our Founder & Executive Director has released an official Welcome Back Statement reflecting on the year ahead, the opportunities and challenges we will face together, and the impact we hope to create throughout our communities.

This statement marks the beginning of a new year of service, leadership, volunteerism, and youth-driven impact at CavUnity.

Over the next few days, we will also be sharing welcome back statements from members of our Senior Leadership Team (SLT) and Executive Leadership Team (ELT). These statements will provide an opportunity for our leadership to share their vision, excitement, and priorities for the year ahead.

We have an exciting year ahead of us, and we cannot wait to see what we accomplish together.

CAVUNITY OPERATIONS UPDATE | CAPE BRETON REGION

The Department of District Operations has provided an update on the launch of 2026–2027 operations across the Cape Breton Region.

Following the lifting of the Local State of Emergency in Richmond County, District 20 will officially launch operations on Monday, September 14. Previously announced launch timelines for Districts 19, 21, and 22 remain unchanged, with operations beginning Thursday and Friday this week.

We are grateful to all first responders, emergency management personnel, public works staff, volunteers, and community members who have supported Cape Breton communities throughout the impacts of the recent storm.

Thank you to our members for your continued patience, cooperation, and understanding. We look forward to welcoming our Cape Breton Region members back as we begin the 2026–2027 operational year.

Tomorrow, Thursday September 10, 2026, CavUnity will recognize Stand Up Against Bullying Day (Pink Shirt Day).

We are asking all CavUnity members and members of our community to join us by wearing pink to raise awareness and stand together against bullying.

At CavUnity, we take a clear stance: bullying of any form has no place in our organization, our communities, or anywhere else. We believe in creating safe, inclusive, and respectful spaces where everyone feels valued, supported, and empowered to be themselves.

By wearing pink, we can stand in unity and send a powerful message that kindness, respect, inclusion, and compassion will always be stronger than bullying.

Join us this Thursday as we stand together and take a stand against bullying.

CAVUNITY OPERATIONS UPDATE | CAPE BRETON REGION

CavUnity has released an updated Operations Statement regarding the ongoing impacts to operations across the Cape Breton Region and Districts 19–22.

As conditions continue to improve across parts of the region, the Department of District Operations is pleased to announce updated operational statuses and official launch dates for several districts:

Districts 19 & 21: Moving to ORANGE STATUS (DELAYED/MODIFIED), with operations officially launching on Friday, September 11, 2026.

District 22 | Cape Breton County: Moving to YELLOW STATUS (CAUTION/MINOR DELAYS), with operations officially launching on Thursday, September 10, 2026.

District 20 | Richmond County: There is currently no change to operations. The Local State of Emergency remains in place, and there is no confirmed timeline for the official launch of operations at this time.

We encourage all members, families, and community members to read the full statement and continue monitoring CavUnity’s official communication channels for further updates.

We look forward to welcoming our Cape Breton Region members back to CavUnity later this week as conditions safely allow.

STATEMENT RELEASE | DIRECTOR OF DISTRICT OPERATIONS

CavUnity has released an official statement on behalf of our Director of District Operations regarding the ongoing operational impacts in the Cape Breton Region.

The statement provides an update on the current RED STATUS (CLOSED) for CavUnity Districts 19–22, ongoing school closures and operational disruptions across affected areas, and the continued monitoring of conditions as CavUnity determines a timeline for the official launch of 2026–2027 operations in the affected districts.

The statement also outlines several important updates for the 2026–2027 operational year, including:
• CavUnity’s updated GREEN, YELLOW, ORANGE, and RED Operational Status Color Code System
• Our updated process for making operational status, delay, modification, cancellation, and closure decisions
• The role of the Department of District Operations, District Directors, SLT, and ELT in the decision-making process
• Updated decision and communication timelines
• The upcoming return of CavUnity’s Cancellations & Operations Status Page on our website
• Upcoming direct cancellation notification sign-up opportunities for community members
• Planned internal mass communications testing for CavUnity members

CAVUNITY OPERATIONS UPDATE | CAPE BRETON REGION

As mentioned in our previous update, CavUnity operations in the Cape Breton Region currently have no confirmed timeline for the official launch of the 2026–2027 operational year due to the ongoing impacts of this past weekend’s storm and local states of emergency currently in place across affected communities.

Please note that all CavUnity Districts in the Cape Breton Region, including Districts 19–22, are currently operating under RED STATUS (CLOSED). This means that no CavUnity operations, activities, meetings, events, or programs are taking place at this time within the affected districts.

We also encourage members and community members to remain aware of local school closures. CSAP schools in affected areas are currently closed. Additionally, many schools within the SRCE and CBVRCE will be closed tomorrow, Tuesday, September 8, 2026. Please check your respective school board’s official communication channels for the latest information and details regarding specific school closures.

At this time, there are no further operational updates from CavUnity’s Department of District Operations. However, Zuraya our Director of District Operations, and her team are actively monitoring the situation and receiving updates to help determine a potential timeline or expected date for operations to officially launch within the affected districts.

A statement on behalf of the Director of District Operations and the Department of District Operations will be released shortly. Our Department of Technology & Support is also actively working to restore CavUnity’s Cancellations & Operations Status page on our website.

We encourage all members to continue monitoring CavUnity’s official social media pages and other communication channels for further updates.

CavUnity has released a statement from our Executive Director regarding the devastating flooding and severe weather impacts affecting communities across Cape Breton and Eastern Nova Scotia.

Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with the family, friends, and loved ones of the woman who tragically lost her life, as well as all individuals and communities impacted by the ongoing conditions.

The safety and well-being of our members and communities remain our highest priority. As a result of the continuing conditions and the State of Emergency in place, CavUnity has further delayed the resumption of operations for all districts in the Cape Breton Region, including Districts 19 through 22. At this time, there is no confirmed timeline for operations to resume in the region.

CAVUNITY OPERATIONS UPDATE

We are pleased to share an update regarding operations in CavUnity District #1 — Central Region and CavUnity District #16 — Highlands Region.

Following recent weather-related operational pauses, both districts will resume operations tomorrow morning as we continue preparations for the official launch of CavUnity’s 2026–27 operational year.

We are excited to have these districts resume preparations and continue working toward welcoming members back for another operational year.

If conditions change or further operational adjustments become necessary, CavUnity’s Department of District Operations will communicate any updates directly with affected members and districts.

Thank you to everyone for your patience, understanding, and cooperation. We look forward to officially launching another exciting year of CavUnity operations.

CAVUNITY OPERATIONS UPDATE — CAPE BRETON REGION

Due to the current local State of Emergency and ongoing impacts from severe weather conditions, all CavUnity operations across the Cape Breton Region will remain paused until further notice.

This operational pause applies to all Cape Breton Region districts:
• District #19 — Inverness County
• District #20 — Richmond County
• District #21 — Victoria County
• District #22 — Cape Breton County

The safety and wellbeing of our members, volunteers, and communities remain our highest priority. CavUnity will continue to monitor the situation closely and work with our leadership team to determine when it is appropriate and safe for operations to resume.

Further updates will be shared as conditions change.

We encourage everyone in affected communities to continue following the direction and guidance of local authorities and emergency officials.
