Southeastern Community Health Board

Southeastern Community Health Board The Southeastern Community Health Board is a group of local volunteers addressing health in community

The Southeastern Community Health Board represents the communities of Cole Harbour, Cow Bay, Eastern Passage, Lawrencetown, Cherry Brook/Lake Loon, North Preston, East Preston and Mineville. The Board responds to local community issues and concerns, using public consultation, research and best practices to identify issues and concerns. The Board strives to develop partnerships with other community

groups and take a lead role in raising awareness of and action on factors that impact on the health of the community, essentially acting as the navigator: connecting, supporting and clarifying. The priority health issues identified by community members within the Southeastern Community Health Board are as follows:
Health Inequities
Physical Activity, Healthy Eating and Healthy Weights
Mental Health
Access to Health Services and Information
Stress
Sense of Belonging
Chronic Conditions

Congratulations to our newest Community Health Board member Ash Fahie!! We are so happy to have you join us on the Southeastern Community Health Board!

For the next few weeks, we will be featuring our student CHB members from across the province who are graduating from various programs.

Today we are featuring Ashley Fahie, from the Southeastern CHB who is graduating from Mount Saint Vincent University with a Bachelor of Science (Honours) with Major in Psychology and Minor in Neuroscience.

Ashley, who joined her CHB recently, had this to say about her experience, "So far I have learned that no one person sees through the same eyes, and that is why it's important that we have people to stand by us in our communities. I would encourage students to get involved with the CHB, or other community involvement, because it can show you the things that are bigger than yourself. It reminds you how important it is to give back to others, and gives you the opportunity to see for others and for others to see for you."

Congratulations, Ashley, on your graduation and thanks so much for choosing to be a part of our CHB team!

What a great walk we had for NS Walks day! We partnered with Mineville Community Association and Hike Nova Scotia and gave out reflective vests to all who participated. Thanks also to Edward Zhu you donated some of our reflective bands. It was a beautiful day to be active and connect in community.
