Heartfelt Thanks for Celebrating International Mother Language Day
Dear Principal, Teachers, and Students of Enfield District Elementary School,
On behalf of BDCANS, we would like to sincerely thank you for inviting us to be part of your International Mother Language Day celebration.
It was truly an honour to join your school community as you recognized the proclamation of International Mother Language Day by the Honourable Tim Houston, Premier of Nova Scotia, and Andy Fillmore, Mayor of Halifax. Their recognition highlights the importance of protecting and promoting mother languages across our province.
This year’s Olympic theme week made the celebration even more special. We were inspired to hear about students sharing greetings in their mother languages during the morning announcements and at dismissal. Giving students the opportunity to proudly speak and celebrate their languages is a powerful way to keep them alive and practiced.
We would especially like to commend the remarkable leadership of the principal and the dedication of the teachers in organizing meaningful activities, including the upcoming assembly where students will once again share greetings in their mother languages. Your commitment to fostering inclusion, diversity, and cultural pride is truly admirable.
It is wonderful to see a school community in Nova Scotia come together to celebrate International Mother Language Day and recognize the importance of preserving linguistic heritage. Efforts like yours help build understanding, respect, and unity among students from all backgrounds.
Thank you once again for your warm invitation and for the important work you are doing to celebrate and protect mother languages.
With sincere appreciation,
Bdcans
