Looking to build your skills and earn volunteer hours? Two online training opportunities are currently available to CCGA members through the Canadian Coast Guard Academy.

The Environmental Response Observation course teaches participants how to safely observe, document, and report pollution and environmental incidents, while ICS-100 provides an introduction to the Incident Command System used to coordinate emergency responses.

Both courses are completed entirely online and are excellent tools for members looking to prepare for future taskings and expand their knowledge. To register, please contact the Regional Office.

CCGA-M Zone 2 recently participated in a joint Search and Rescue exercise with Miramichi Ground Search and Rescue on the Miramichi River.

Pictured are volunteers Eric Simpson and Janika Richard, who spent the day conducting shoreline and parallel-track searches with their Zone Director, Lynn Gregan, while working alongside partner agencies. Exercises like these strengthen cooperation, build operational experience, and help ensure our volunteers are ready when lives depend on it.

Bobbie the Boat would like to remind everyone: Problem at sea? Call JRCC!

Did you know that many people involved in marine emergencies still call 911 first? While 911 operators will do their best to help, the fastest way to get the right resources moving is often to contact the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre (JRCC) directly.

If you experience a marine emergency on the water, call JRCC at 1-800-565-1582 or make a distress call on VHF Channel 16. JRCC coordinates maritime search and rescue responses and can quickly task the vessels, aircraft, and rescue resources needed to assist.

Help us spread the word in your community. Share this number with your family, friends, fellow boaters, and anyone who spends time on the water. Knowing who to call could save valuable time when every minute counts.

As boating activity picks up across the Maritimes, now is the time to make sure your dewatering pump is ready to go. A dewatering pump can make all the difference when a vessel is taking on water, but only if it starts and operates when needed. Take a few minutes to inspect your pump, check hoses and fittings, test run the engine, confirm it primes properly, and ensure you have fresh fuel available. Regular maintenance and testing help ensure this critical piece of equipment is ready when your community needs it most.

If your unit has a dewatering pump, please don't wait until an emergency to discover a problem. A few minutes of preventative maintenance today could save valuable time, property, or even lives later this season.

Last week, 10 CCGA-M members joined us at the regional office for a refresher training day focused on sharpening skills and building confidence for the season ahead. Members reviewed VHF radio communications, search patterns, towing procedures, AED use, CPR best practices, and more through a mix of discussion and hands-on practice. Thanks to everyone who attended and invested in staying operationally ready. Interested in joining an upcoming refresher course? Reach out to the office to register.

A huge congratulations to the 12 members who took part in the very first SVOP course offered by the CCGA-M. Over four days of training, these members strengthened their skills, challenged themselves, and took another step toward being even more prepared to save lives on the water. Thanks to everyone who participated and helped make this first delivery a success.

CCGA-M Refresher Courses are fun, hands-on review days designed for members who want to sharpen existing skills and feel more confident responding on the water. These sessions are intended for members who have already completed training in areas such as radio communications, AED usage, de-watering pump operation, search patterns, towing procedures, and other operational topics, but would benefit from a practical refresher. Expect interactive scenarios, simulators, teamwork, and plenty of opportunities to review the skills that help save lives on the water.

Members interested in upcoming refresher dates are encouraged to contact the regional office to register or express interest.

Here are the smiling faces of 12 newly trained CCGA-M members. These members travelled to our regional office to complete their Rescue Boat Master 1 (RBM-1) course, covering key topics including the history of the CCGA, towing procedures, search patterns, VHF radio protocols, and more.

With this training complete, they are now ready to be placed on the JRCC tasking list and called upon to respond in emergencies within their communities.

Welcome to these new members, and thank you for stepping up to help save lives on the water.
