Cumberland Community Schools Society

Cumberland Community Schools Society A registered charity working to improve access to healthy food, inclusive recreation & networks of support in the Village of Cumberland.

Established in 2000, CCSS is a registered charity that operates out of Cumberland Community School to provide a Healthy Lunch Program, After-School Activities, drop-in Youth Centre, Community Programs and the Cumberland Food Share. Although we work closely with the school, we are a separate entity from both the public school and the PAC. CCSS envisions a healthy, vibrant and inclusive community where all residents thrive through meaningful connections, security and a sense of belonging.

Thanks to MosaicForests for stopping by yesterday with a donation!

After once again supporting the world-class BC Bike Race last month, Mosaic gave back to the community through a $3,000 donation to CCSS.

We’re grateful to Mosaic for investing in CCSS programs that foster connection, resilience, and well-being throughout our village.

Today's happenings at CCSS!

CCSS is a registered charity that works to improve access to nutritious food, inclusive recreation, lifelong learning and networks of support in the Village of Cumberland.

Although we work closely with the public school, we are a separate entity responsible for our own fundraising & operations. We currently provide a school meal program, after-school activities, drop-in youth centre, food share, and community programs for all ages.

This spring we hosted our first Youth Barista Training Programs for youth!

Facilitated by CCSS staff in collaboration with Wanderlust Coffee, youth learned foundational barista skills, food safety procedures, and customer service techniques. To complete the session, youth will be hosting a Pop-Up Café on Thursday June 18th, giving them an opportunity to practice their new skills.

Our long-term goal is to offer Youth Barista Training multiple times per year, with regular Pop-Up Cafés that allow youth to continue practicing and refining their skills. This free program will provide participants with valuable job-readiness experience while building confidence and transferable skills relevant to the service industry.

A special thanks to the Village of Cumberland for providing funding to get this program started, and to our friend Liz at Wanderlust Coffee, for sharing her skills with our youth.

A sincere thank you to GFL Environmental for supporting CCSS through their Full Circle Project.

In addition to a generous $5,000 donation, the GFL team hosted a food drive to collect non-perishable items for the Food Share.

Thank you, GFL Environmental, for your substantial contribution and for actively investing in the well-being of our community.

Pictured in photo is both GFL and CCSS staff.

THANK YOU to the Comox Valley Community Foundation for supporting the Cumberland Food Share!

📣 Cumberland Community Schools Society is helping neighbours access healthy food and community support.

What began as an emergency pandemic response has grown into a vital community program. Today, Cumberland Food Share delivers nutritious food hampers every two weeks to 75–80 households in Cumberland — supporting children, seniors, adults, and families throughout the community.

💜 Cumberland Community Schools Society was one of 45 local organizations supported through Comox Valley Community Foundation grants this year — made possible by the many individuals, families, and businesses who give through the Community Foundation.

Their story is one of many featured in this year’s Impact Report, now online at: https://buff.ly/ZgyysLO

TEAM THUNDERBALLS!

Sending our gratitude to all the kind folks who came out early Monday morning to volunteer their time to help set up for Thunderballs! Your time, energy & community spirit make all the difference.

Thunderballs is a true team effort — from building the ramp and setting up the track, to selling tickets and securing sponsors. Whether you’re working behind the scenes or on the front lines, we see you and we appreciate you all! ❤

CCSS events wouldn’t be possible without the support of our community. THANK YOU for making Thunderballs a success!
