Creston Harvest Share

Creston Harvest Share Message this page to share your harvest or volunteer as a picker. We operate through the generosity of local Creston residents.

Harvest Share gleans fruit and vegetables from local farmers, orchards and back yard gardeners and shares the produce at no charge with individuals, families and Gleaners Food Bank. Harvest Share is a non-profit program implemented by the Creston Valley Food Action Coalition in 2008. Our focus is to reduce the amount of fresh produce that goes to waste here in our valley, and make this produce ava

ilable to picking volunteers and local service agencies who assist individuals and families in need. People with fruit/nut trees, gardens and berry bushes invite us to their home to harvest the abundance of produce. The harvest is then split three ways: between the owner of the property, the picking volunteers and local service agencies. Message this page if you have harvest to share, or if you want to help with the harvest.

We were so privileged to be invited to the KRSS Culinary Art's appreciation dinner!

Harvest Share is proud to provide a portion of the produce we pick to this wonderful program, as well as other community organizations.

Kudos to the young chefs and their instructor, Loïc Fauteux-Goulet, who provided this feast!

There were many supporters in the room, but there is always space for more! If you would like to support food education and nutrition to Creston's young people, there is plenty of opportunity!

Harvest Share is on PBS!

This past fall we helped film a segment for Alice's Adventures on Earth on PBS. She explores the Selkirk Loop, of which Creston is a part.

You can skip to minute 19:00 if you'd like to watch the Creston Segment, or to 20:40 to find the section focussing on Harvest Share!

If you'd like to be part of the Harvest Share program, or contribute produce from your farm or yard, please feel free to reach out. We donate thousands of pounds into the community every year!

Bee Amazed🐝❤️🐝 by the community support.

A huge thank you to Swan Valley Honey for supporting our Buy a Block campaign by purchasing their block to help keep the Kootenay Farms Food Hub in community hands. 🍯🌱

Jeff chairs the Fields Forward Society, which operates the Food Hub, and Amanda chairs Creston Valley Food Action, which runs the Creston Valley Farmers Market and the Harvest Share Program. They know firsthand how vital these organizations are to our valley, our farmers, and local food security.

As local business owners whose products are enjoyed throughout BC, they also understand the daily realities and challenges faced by agricultural businesses. Their support reflects a deep commitment to strengthening our farming community and investing in a resilient local food system.

Thank you, Swan Valley Honey, for leading by example and helping build a stronger future for agriculture in the Kootenays. 💛

Harvest Share is a part of the Creston Valley Food Action Coalition, and we're proud to be a piece of food security in the Creston Valley.

You're invited to our AGM to learn more about the opportunities, and ways to consider being involved.

Are you interested in learning about the big picture of Creston's local food organizations? You are invited to our AGM!

The Creston Valley Food Action Coalition (The umbrella non-profit for the Farmers' Market) and Fields Forward work closely together and also share an annual general meeting. It's a great place to hear about the vision, challenges, and successes taking place in local food advocacy.

Consider joining us on May 21 at 6:00pm. The Manager of College of the Rockies will also be giving a presentation on the agriculture focus and programs offered locally. Refreshments and a time to mingle will also be available following the meeting.

Feel free to reach out with any questions.

What a great way to start the week❤️

This morning, just as we opened the doors at the Food Hub, a generous community member made a $5,000 contribution to our campaign to purchase the building and make it a forever home for our programs.

They wish to remain anonymous, but the shout-out is well deserved—thank you!❤️❤️❤️

Want to join this food movement?

Your support will help two local nonprofits and the programs that boost food security, support our farmers, entrepreneurs, and small businesses.

Please join us in thanking Megan and Doug of Big Bear Meats for purchasing 2 Legacy Funder Blocks as part of our fundraising campaign — each block is $1,000. ❤️🧱🧱 and we can offer a tax deductible receipt.

Megan and Doug know firsthand how vital the Kootenay Farm Food Hub is for small businesses getting off the ground. They kicked off their business at the Food Hub, launched products at the Farmers Market, and built a customer base while developing their own processing facility.

Thanks to the Food Hub, they generated income and grew their business as they built their facility—one great example of how we support local entrepreneurs.

Thank you for your support, Megan and Doug! If you haven’t tried Big Bear Meats yet, catch them at the Spring Turnout Market at Kootenay Meadows this Saturday.🐄🐄🐄

If you would like to become a legacy funder and purchase your block reach out or come see us at the Food Hub. We are located at 401 Payne St. Across from the Bottle Depot.

I picked almost 200 lbs of these beautiful Anjou pears this past weekend. It was a solitary evening with a mighty view. I had to break out my toque for the first time this year.

It may be our final harvest of 2025 with Harvest Share. It has been a full and bountiful season. I am so thankful for all of you who participated alongside me.
