Birthdays, birthdays, and more birthdays!
It seems my only creativity these days comes from making birthday gifts for the many wonderful people in my life.
After my daughter's 4th birthday, we were invited to lots of parties! Since losing my job in July of 2024 and so searching, money has been tight. This has given me the opportunity to use materials I have in my current stash and get creative!
In January, we were invited to K's 5th birthday! This very energetic, loving, and highly creative little human loves strange stuffies and it was requested to have "as many colours as posdible". I was tasked to create one of my rice-filled froggies and a crochet snake! I created my own frog pattern through trial and error, but I found a magnificent snake pattern by Stitch by Fay: https://www.stitchbyfay.com/easy-crochet-snake-pattern/
I loved this pattern so much, I hyperixated making so many snakes for my house and friends alike! You can see just how many different sizes and patterns I made! The large anaconda was made for one of my partners' friends. They personally asked me to make a large grey one for their birthday on February 14th. I'm happy to say they loved it!
Next up in middle February it was my daughter's BFF's 4th birthday! My daughter asked for a red flower purse like hers but I couch find enough of the right yarn so we made her a HUGE star blanket and some crochet roses. Pattern link to The Crochet Crowd and their pattern: https://thecrochetcrowd.com/crochet-super-star-blanket-blanket/ . I have modified the start of this pattern to fit my crochet style, however the majority of the pattern is from this beautiful creator! I love making and gifting these blankets to family and friends and it's unique and easy to make!
Lastly, we were invited to L's 5th birthday! I was told she loves playing dress-up, unicorns, and anything girly! I found a unicorn pillow pattern and used it as a guide to freestyle my own version. The creator was Hooked On Homemade Happiness and here is a link to the pattern: https://www.hookedonhomemadehappiness.com/unicorn-pillow-friend-crochet-pattern/ . I posted a picture of their pillow bellow. Everything from my pillow from inside to the roses on top was created from scratch! I ended up taking a fall on the playground a few days before the party and was unable to complete the unicorn's eyes. But the reaction from the birthday girl was one of happiness so I just have to let my neurodivergent perfectionism slide this time.
And now my hands and wrists need a breather to recover from my fall. I'm on the hunt for new patterns to try and opportunities to continue to create and reuse what materials I have. I have been asked to make a few more snakes and some themed purses for spring so I hope to write again soon.
