CMHA Kootenays was proud to attend the launch of the Doorway to Safety Project in Vancouver this past week! The BC Society of Transition Houses is launching the Doorway to Safety Project, a pilot initiative supported by Ring and Amazon. This initiative will provide 3,000 Ring Devices, to domestic survivors across British Columbia. The devices will be distributed through BCSTH's 140 member organizations spanning seven regions of BC. CMHA Kootenays is proud to announce that they have been chosen to be the pilot site distributer for the Kootenays!
"Nearly half of BC women have experienced intimate partner violence since the age of 15," said Amy S. FitzGerald, Executive Director of the BC Society of Transition Houses. "We've heard from support workers and survivors for years that these devices could make a difference. This program makes that possible."
"Leaving an abusive relationship does not always mean the stalking, harassment or fear ends," said Brooke Belkin, BCSTH Board of Directors Chair and Director of Youth and Women Services at the Canadian Mental Health Association for the Kootenays, one of the program's seven regional pilot sites. "The women we support are dealing with real, ongoing threats. Anything that gives them more awareness of what is happening around their home matters."
