Comox Valley Athletic Association

Comox Valley Athletic Association http://cvathletics.ca/ In recent years, student athletes have been forced to pay for almost all their sporting related expenses, including transportation.

It’s no secret that raising a family today can be an economic challenge but the pinch can be further felt especially when it comes to involvement in sports. Although some relief is available for economically challenged students, the financial hardships can still be overwhelming. To help offse

t the financial demand, the Comox Valley Athletic Association was born. Established in 2011 by local veterinarian Peter Parke, the Association’s mission is to give the young athletes in the Comox Valley a chance to realize their full athletic potential in a wide range of sporting endeavors.

Every rugby player begins somewhere.

For many families, that beginning is not about long-term plans or knowing exactly where a sport may lead. It is simply about giving a child the opportunity to try something new in a setting that feels welcoming, supportive, and easy to step into.

Try Rugby Day 2.0 is designed to offer that kind of first experience. Players will have the chance to learn basic skills, meet teammates, and experience the game in a relaxed environment built for beginners.

For some, it may just be a fun evening. For others, it may be the start of something that feels right.

There are often small moments when a child starts to feel more comfortable in a new activity. It may not look dramatic, but parents usually recognize it right away, more involvement, more ease, more willingness to jump in.

Try Rugby Day 2.0 is meant to create that kind of beginner friendly experience for families still exploring.

Not every sport suits every personality or learning style. Some children connect more easily with environments that offer movement, collaboration, and a clearer sense of their role within a team.

That doesn't mean something is wrong. It often just means the fit matters. Come try out rugby on April 15th, at the Lewis Park, 5:30-7pm!

A child’s experience in sport is not always decided by talent or results. Sometimes it comes down to whether they understand their role, feel involved, and have room to learn without feeling behind.

That's often where long term enjoyment begins!

Rugby is often misunderstood by families who have not been around it before. Many are surprised to learn how much of the game is about teamwork, support, movement, and learning through participation.

When new players arrive, coaches are not looking for experience or immediate performance. They are looking for effort, openness, and how a player responds to learning in a team setting.

Try Rugby Day 2.0 is a good chance for families to see that environment firsthand. April 15, Lewis Park, 5:30 to 7:00 PM. Grades 3 to 8 welcome.

For many families, finding the right sport is not always immediate. It often involves trying a few different activities, seeing what feels comfortable, and understanding what matters most at a given stage.

As children grow, priorities can shift. Enjoyment, involvement, and feeling part of a team can become just as important as development or performance.

For those still exploring options, Try Rugby Day 2.0 offers an opportunity to experience the game in a welcoming and supportive environment.

The early part of a rugby practice is focused on helping players settle in, understand the structure of the session, and begin working through the fundamentals of the game.

For new and returning players, this time is important. It allows them to become comfortable with the environment, learn how drills are organized, and start building confidence through repetition and guidance.

Practices are already underway for U14, and players are continuing to develop their understanding of the game each week.

There is still time to join as the season progresses.
