As we celebrate renewal, growth, and fresh beginnings, April is one of the most exciting times in agriculture—everything is waking up!

🌾 Did you know?

April soil temperatures finally warm enough for many crops to germinate—making it one of the busiest planting months for farmers.
Chickens naturally increase egg production in spring due to longer daylight hours—perfect timing for Easter eggs! 🥚
Bees begin actively pollinating in April, helping kickstart the growing season for fruits and vegetables. 🐝
Many root crops thrive when planted in early spring, taking advantage of cool, moist soil.

Spring reminds us that agriculture is all about patience, care, and a little bit of magic from nature. 🌸

We have a new aspect of agriculture we are celebrating at CVEX this year, "W**ds: The Good, the Bad, the Ugly, and the Painful"

Some of the events to celebrate this theme:

1st Annual Competitive W**ding Championship 🌿
Categories include:
• Speed W**ding (1m x 1m plot – fastest time wins)
• Precision Pull (root intact or DISQUALIFIED)
• Freestyle W**ding (style points encouraged)
Grand prize: Golden Dandelion Trophy

New Home and Garden Categories
• Best W**d Salad (must be 100% local weeds)
• Longest intact root system

And for a Double rosette ribbon:
• Largest thorn from a Blackberry. Extra points if it drew blood before you snapped it off

Applications are now open for food vendors at this year’s Comox Valley Exhibition!

Every year the fair brings thousands of visitors together to celebrate agriculture, community, and good old-fashioned fun — and the food is always a big part of the experience. From classic fair favourites to unique local flavours, we’re looking for vendors who can help make this year’s fair delicious and memorable.

📅 Fair Dates: August 29 & 30
⏰ Vendor Commitment: 9 AM – 5 PM both days
