This February marks 30 years of Black History Month in Canada and invites reflection on how belonging, access, and opportunity continue to be experienced by Black community members today. This year’s theme honours the enduring contributions of Black Canadians across generations, celebrating nation builders who shaped Canada’s social, cultural, and political life, while looking ahead to tomorrow’s visionaries who continue to redefine excellence and possibility.

Just as important and necessary here in Canada as in Great Britain & Ireland. And just as impactful on a business' bottom line.

Darker commutes, late finishes and a rise in unwanted attention all add an extra layer of consideration to what should be a straightforward time of year.

Soroptimists across Western Canada continue the advocacy and action.

For generations, periods were treated as something to hide, leaving menstruation out of public conversations and policies. The result? Barriers to education, work, and participation in daily life for countless people.

Access to period products isn’t just a matter of comfort but a matter of equity. When people can’t afford or access what the products and facilities they need, they’re forced to miss school, skip work, or make unsafe choices.

Menstrual equity is an important milestone in advancing gender equality. By removing barriers around something as basic as period products, we open doors to greater economic participation, health, and dignity for all.

As we talk about Women’s History Month and all the incredible Canadian women and their contributions to Canada, it is also important to reflect on the history that is being made today.
