Tango tonight, March 24 2025!
Our third of four tango practicas will happen tonight, 6:00 at The Abbey in Cumberland. First a warm up and maybe a little about the music and the orchestras, then 90 minutes of curated golden age music for your dancing pleasure.
Our three day Liz Haight event May 30-June 1 for intermediate and advanced dancers is almost full, room for four more couples (lead/follow)!

Practica
Our first practica in five years was a success! Eight dancers showed up, some we haven't seen quite a while! We got some good tango dancing in.
On to the next Practica. This Monday, March 17th will be our second March practica. Expect a warm-up exercise or two, some walking, then 90 minutes of music and practise. Hope you can come!
Liz Haight in May
Our big event is in May, a three day 5 lesson course for intermediate and advanced dancers with renowned tango milonguero instructor Liz Haight from Santa Fe. We're already half full, with dancers from Seattle, Vancouver, Spokane, Nelson and of course all over Vancouver Island.
Billets
Speaking of dancers from all over, we're looking for people to billet dancers for the May event. Even if you're not attending the event, billeting is a great way to meet new people and stay connected to the tango community. Please contact me if you think you can share a bedroom for one or two dancers for Friday, Saturday and possible Sunday nights, May 30-June 1.
And don't forget, open 3 hour milonga on Saturday evening May 31 from 6-9pm

A Weekend Workshop of Milonguero Style Tango
with Liz Haight

May 30 - June 1, 2025

Location: The Abbey, Cumberland, Vancouver Island, BC

Come for an experiential and exploratory weekend of Milonguero Style Tango with Liz Haight! Liz has been teaching Milonguero Style Tango for 22 years and is one of the founders of the Encuentro network in North America. Liz has studied with many well known dancers in the Milonguero community over the years (Ruben Harymbat, Juan Manuel Suarez, Pedro Sanchez, Luis Rojas). However, her most influential and main teachers were Ricardo Vidort, Osvaldo Cartery (2004 world champion), and for the past 23 years, Alicia Pons. Her work comes from a lineage of Milonguero Style dancers who have understood the dance as primarily an energetic, emotional, and sensory experience. Liz's work focuses on the internal flow of movement within a grounded, relaxed, deeply comfortable embrace - the hallmark of Milonguero Style Tango. Through relaxation and ease, we will use figures to explore depth of connection, communication between partners, and musical expression. The intention of the workshop is to develop a deeply pleasurable, natural, and lush quality in our dance, one that is personal and unique to each of us.

This 5 class 3 day workshop plus milonga is open to intermediate and advanced Tango dancers. Maximum 30 dancers (role-balanced).
