When you wear a poppy, you're helping make a difference in your community. 🌺

The Comox Valley Healthcare Foundation is proud to recognize a $20,000 donation from Royal Canadian Legion Branch 17 (Courtenay Legion), funded through their annual Poppy Campaign. This gift will support Diagnostic Imaging at Comox Valley Hospital, helping provide timely diagnoses and quality care close to home.

Over the past 27 years, the Courtenay Legion has contributed approximately $350,000 to local healthcare. Their generosity, along with the support of Poppy Campaign donors, continues to create lasting impact for patients and families across the Comox Valley.

We're so grateful for the love surrounding our Stuffed Animal Program for young patients and so pleased to connect with Jo-Anne O'Toole from one of our seven local Beta Sigma Phi chapters.

Jo-Anne's chapter, Laureate Jarroma Jola, has been collecting new stuffed animals throughout the spring and summer months. Nine big bags of stuffies, 111 in total, were dropped off last week with hopes that they bring some joy and comfort to children receiving care here at the hospital.

Thank you to everyone who contributed to Laureate Jarroma Jola's collection and to other community members and businesses who support this special patient comfort initiative throughout the year.

Thank you Puntledge RV Campground for getting involved! We appreciate your help and Ramona Johnson's leadership around this special initiative.

Puntledge RV Park & Campground are proud to contribute to the Comox Valley Healthcare Foundation’s Stuffed Animal Program in support of young patients at Comox Valley Hospital. Ramona Johnson is leading a stuffed toy drive, and we are thrilled we can be the drop-off location. Stuffed animals are used in several departments throughout the hospital to help comfort children who need medical care. These soft, cuddly toys reduce stress and are wonderful for distracting, calming, or cheering up young patients.

For hygiene reasons, stuffed animals must be new with tags left on. Small to medium size stuffies are best. You can bring your stuffed animal donations to the reception area at Puntledge RV Park & Campground (4624 Condensory Road in Courtenay). Our goal is to collect 200 stuffies and we would love your help in reaching this goal!

The Kiwanis Club of Courtenay plans to PACK THE BRONCO WITH LOVE on September 12th in connection with their inaugural Poker Run event. Adding a cargo of comfort for Comox Valley kids is a special aspect of the poker run that participants can help with to further support young patients at the Comox Valley Hospital. Bring a new stuffed animal (with tags left on) to the event and it will be provided to children who receive care at the hospital. Let's stuff the Bronco with stuffies!

Registration for the Kiwanis' Poker Run happens on the day of the event from 9:30am-noon at 635 Pidcock Avenue in Courtenay. Fantastic prizes, great stop locations, and a celebratory wrap up at Kitty Coleman Woodland Gardens is in the works!

This charity poker run is a fun, family-oriented event for car enthusiasts, motorcyclists, classic car adventurers, or anyone who wants to come together to support local healthcare. Proceeds from the event will help the Foundation fund a portable vein finder for the pediatrics department, a tool that reduces stress for little ones and facilitates great care.

Posting with gratitude and concern. Thank you BC Wildfire Service and all supporting agencies.

We’re incredibly grateful for the generosity people continue to show firefighters and wildfire personnel across B.C. ❤️

We know when wildfires are impacting communities, people want to help. And we see and appreciate the offers of food, drinks, supplies and other donations that come our way.

While the gesture means a lot, BC Wildfire Service crews are fully supplied with the food, water and equipment they need. Unfortunately, we’re not able to accept donations at fire camps, bases or worksites. Unplanned deliveries can also create additional work for personnel and interfere with busy wildfire operations.

The best way to support wildfire response is to direct that generosity toward the communities and people who need it most.

Organizations like the United Way BC and Canadian Red Cross, along with local organizations supporting evacuees and impacted communities, can help ensure donations reach people where they’ll have the greatest impact.

There are other important ways you can help, too.

Follow evacuation orders and alerts, respect area restrictions and road closures, stay clear of wildfire operations and do everything you can to prevent new human-caused wildfires.

You can also take action at home. FireSmart work around your property can help make your home more resilient to wildfire and give firefighters a better chance of defending it. Simple actions like clearing combustible material from around your home, cleaning debris from roofs and gutters and keeping vegetation maintained can make a meaningful difference.
