Spending time in and around the St. Lawrence River this weekend?🌞 We need your help to look out for eels! The River Institute team is asking the community to document reports of dead and/or injured American eels along the river.

HOW TO REPORT:
👉Fill in a short form with your observations at🔗https://loom.ly/9hreF7M

Key information that we're seeking:
· A photo of the eel
· Date of the sighting
· GPS coordinates or location (nearby landmarks)
· Approximate body length
· Description of visible injuries, if applicable

With your help, we can have more eyes on the water for more eels to be spotted. If you have any questions, please reach out using the above email.

⚠️NOTE: The American eel are an endangered species in Ontario and can not be handled without a permit. If you find an eel, please leave it where it was found.

ℹ️TIP: Save this post if you are spending time near the river this summer so that the survey link and email are easily accessible when needed!

📢Calling all volunteers! Want to take action on phragmites in Cornwall? 🌾
Join the River Institute on Friday, October 16th at Rotary Creek to learn about invasive phragmites (European Common Reed) and contribute to the restoration of local ecosystems!

📆Date: Friday, October 16
⏰Time: 1:300m – 3:30pm
📍Location: Rotary Creek, located south and west of the Royal Canadian Air Force Association 240 Water St W, Cornwall, ON K6J 5N1

Removal activities will include using clippers to remove and bag seedheads (relatively low impact activity), and a spade to cut and remove stems below the ground (slightly higher impact activity).

🔸Today is National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.🔸

This day emphasizes the need to learn, reflect and remember. To support learning for reconciliation, our partners at the Outdoor Learning School & Store have worked with Indigenous staff, advisors and partners to create a suite of Indigenous resources and learning opportunities, both for bringing into the classroom and for individual learning.

Learning can and should take place beyond National Day for Truth & Reconciliation. Consider participating in a course, webinar, or exploring various books and resources to better learn, recognize and take action in your truth and reconciliation practice through all seasons.

Register for the 33rd Annual River Symposium to take part in one of two exciting hands-on workshops!

🎨🌾Aquatic Invasive Species Art Workshop: Join the River Institute to learn about aquatic invasive species in the St. Lawrence River and how they can be used through an artistic activity. In this activity, you can try your hand at printmaking, drawing, and writing with plant-based ink and paper from invasive plant species in the region.

🦠💧Bacteria Busters Workshops: Join Water Rangers and the River Institute to learn how to use some of the new Water Rangers volunteer monitoring tools. This workshop will start in the theatre lounge and walk down to the river to take some samples. Please bring suitable attire for the weather.
