BOISAR members honoured with an incredible display of kindness and Thanksgiving by local grade 7 students!

This past Friday, BOISAR members were invited to the Thanksgiving Assembly at St. Peter's Academy in Benoit's Cove.

Mr. Lambe's Grade 7 class delivered a beautifully prepared presentation about BOISAR's capabilities and contributions and offered their thanks to BOISAR's volunteers.

Our members were impressed, humbled, and sincerely appreciative of this amazing gesture.

These students are our future leaders, decision makers, and possibly also our future volunteer members. This gesture shows not only their compassion but also their recognition of the importance of dedication and commitment to positive change and helping those in need.

This Thanksgiving we are thankful that our future is in such great hands and also that we have the opportunity to earn the trust of communities throughout the Bay of Islands as we deliver search and rescue coverage throughout the region!

BOISAR responds to ATV accident with injury on Sunday afternoon

At approximately 3pm on Sunday, BOISAR members were dispatched by the RNC to respond to an ATV accident with an injury approximately 2 km in a local ATV trail.

15 members quickly responded to the call, established a staging area at the Steady Brook Falls parking lot, and along with NL Health Services paramedics, deployed to the incident location by ATVs.

Once on scene, BOISAR members assisted paramedics in providing first aid, stabilizing the subject's injury, and transporting the subject back down hill to a waiting ambulance using BOISAR's rescue boggan.

BOISAR would like to acknowledge the assistance and initial care provided by the subject's travelling companions, passers by, and RNC officers. Their actions were of great assistance to responding members in terms of communication, location finding, and care for the subject.

BOISAR also credits those involved in the accident with wearing appropriate helmets - likely preventing a more serious injury - and having a charged communication device at hand to call for help.

Our members send the subject sincere best wishes for a speedy recovery!

BOISAR, NL Health Services, and 103 SAR Helicopter Crew conduct rescue at top of Man in the Mountain Trail

Just after 5pm on Thursday, BOISAR was deployed by the RNC to assist in the rescue of an individual experiencing a medical emergency on the trail.

19 members quickly responded to the trailhead and, along with NL Health Services paramedics, responded up the trail on ATVs towards the Man in the Mountain Lookout. Once on scene, BOISAR members worked alongside paramedics to assess and provide first aid for the individual. Given the nature of the incident, it was determined that extraction by helicopter was required.

A Canadian Forces Search and Rescue helicopter from the 103 Squadron in Gander was dispatched and a successful extraction was conducted shortly before 10:00 p.m.. The individual was then transported on to hospital by ambulance.

BOISAR members send sincere best wishes for a speedy recovery and credit the subject's travelling companions with calling for assistance to ensure rescue personnel were deployed.

The success of this rescue depended on coordination and close cooperation between BOISAR members, paramedics, helicopter crew members, and the RNC. Thank you for your dedication and professionalism.

Thanks also to Rugged Edge for delivering additional ATVs to help transport members to the scene.

Happy Opening Day to Big Game Hunters!

As the main Moose Hunting Season opened at daylight this morning, BOISAR has placed members On Call for shifts throughout the weekend.

We wish all hunters a safe and successful season and remind everyone of the Three Ts of Backcountry Safety: Trip Planning, Training, and Taking the essentials!

As Moose Management Areas in BOISAR’s response area cover hundreds of square kilometers, accurate trip planning is especially important for Moose Hunters.

A Trip Plan simply involves letting a responsible person know your intended destination, travel route, equipment, contact information, and expected return time. This information is vital for SAR teams that may have to search for you in the event of an emergency.

The AdventureSmart trip planning page, makes this important step quick and easy!

The Search Starts With The Call Out! BOISAR member helps find missing persons while enroute to deployment!

During last night's regular training session, BOISAR was deployed by the RNC to search for two children missing from a residential area in Corner Brook.

While responding to the building to deploy, one of our sharp eyed members spotted individuals matching the subjects' description and helped bring the search to a quick and successful conclusion!

Another piece of good news we would like to mention is this week's Speedy Glass Corner Brook Star of the Week: our very own Pat Moore!

Congratulations on receiving this well deserved recognition of your incredible commitments, Pat! We're so fortunate to have you on the team!

At last evening’s training, BOISAR officially unveiled the newest member of our fleet: our brand-new 2026 Can-Am Outlander 850 6x6!

This amazing machine was put to work right away and performed perfectly in towing our rescue boggan - with our mock patient and attendant inside - up steep hills and over rough terrain during our training scenario.

Eager to get into the action, we had to quickly re-load the 6x6 as the team was deployed on a SAR call just before the end of our training session. Thankfully, and before we could send our new ATV on its first deployment, the team was stood down, and equipment was returned to base.

We would like to send a huge thank you to everyone that contributed to our Bay FM Radiothon Fundraiser back in June and to all the individuals and businesses that supported our fundraising efforts over the past several months.

With the addition of this equipment and the specialized training and skills of our members, BOISAR continues to enhance the capabilities and effectiveness of Search and Rescue response throughout Corner Brook and surrounding areas, the Bay of Islands, and beyond.

Thanks to the crew at Central Service Recreation for helping arrange this purchase!

Please note that this evening, BOISAR members will be conducting training exercises in the Crockers Road area near Confederation Drive and the bottom of Massey Drive .

Our members will be practicing their search and rescue skills as they respond simultaneously to a mock mountain bike incident and a mock ATV incident.

If you see our members along the upper portion of the Ginger Route Mountain Bike Trail and along the trail leading from Crocker's Road to 3-Mile Dam, don’t be alarmed – all is well – it’s just BOISAR putting in the work!
