Last week, members of our team attended the 2026 Econext Conference in St. John’s, connecting with industry and government leaders to discuss opportunities supporting Newfoundland and Labrador’s growing green economy.

Our CEO, Kelly Smith, participated in a panel discussion on building the infrastructure needed to support the green economy, highlighting the importance of marine infrastructure in enabling new investment, supporting industry and connecting businesses to markets.

We also attended a workshop focused on accelerating the adoption of low-carbon fuels in Canada’s marine transportation sector, providing valuable insight into emerging technologies and opportunities for the industry.

These conversations reinforce the importance of planning infrastructure that can support emerging industries and new opportunities across Newfoundland and Labrador.

There will be plenty happening on West Street from 10:00 AM–5:00 PM, including an open-air market, live entertainment, and a surprise visit from local mummers around 2:00 PM!

Yesterday, the Port of Corner Brook met with the Honourable Barry Petten, Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure, to discuss our infrastructure priorities and opportunities to support future trade and economic growth across Newfoundland and Labrador.

The discussion focused on the importance of investing in critical marine infrastructure to support the Port’s growing role in Northern and Arctic logistics, strengthen connections to new markets and create capacity for emerging trade opportunities.

Thank you to Minister Petten for taking the time to meet with us and discuss the Port’s role in supporting economic development across the province.

The City of Corner Brook’s Fall-Winter 2026–27 newsletter is here! 🍂❄️

From community highlights to seasonal tips and updates, the latest edition has plenty to explore.

We're very excited to say that the fall-winter 2026-27 edition of our newsletter will begin arriving in mailboxes next week, however you can take a look right now online at www.cornerbrook.com/annual-newsletters. In this edition we highlight the Rotary Arts Centre as a part of our first Community Highlight as well as offer helpful fire safety tips, as well as some answers to frequently asked questions regarding our snow clearing operations.

We also have information about our holiday waste collection, city facilities such as the Civic Centre and Marina Redmond Centre, and much more. PLUS there is a fun activity for the youngsters on the final page made by local artist Michelle MacKinnon!

A great two days at the West Coast Business & Investment Summit!

Collaboration was a key theme throughout the summit, reinforcing the importance of working together to build on Western Newfoundland's strengths and realize the opportunities ahead for our region.

Our CEO, Kelly Smith, was pleased to participate in the panel discussion, Unlocking Growth: Infrastructure, Investment and the Capacity to Grow, exploring the role of infrastructure, strategic investment and regional capacity in supporting future economic growth.

The summit was also a valuable opportunity to connect with leaders from industry, government and the business community, share perspectives and discuss how we can support continued investment and economic growth across Western Newfoundland.

We were also pleased to support the summit as a coffee break sponsor, providing another opportunity to connect with attendees and continue conversations throughout the event.

A new connection between Western Newfoundland and Canada’s North.

The Port of Corner Brook, Logistec and have marked the launch of NEAS’s new liner service to Western Newfoundland with the arrival of the ice-class vessel UKPIK.

The vessel departed Corner Brook carrying a fleet of Arctic-grade “Silver Dolphin” aluminum boats manufactured in Newfoundland by Fab-Tech Industries Inc. and destined for Arctic communities — a great example of Newfoundland-made products reaching new markets through our Port.

For Newfoundland and Labrador businesses, the service creates new opportunities to move products, equipment and expertise into Northern markets.

The new service also strengthens Corner Brook’s role as a gateway between Newfoundland and Labrador and Canada’s North, helping build the trade connections that support long-term economic growth in Western Newfoundland.

Congratulations to the Canadian Coast Guard on the official dedication of the CCGS Groswater Bay! ⚓

The CCGS Groswater Bay is a Canadian-built Search and Rescue Lifeboat that will be stationed in Lark Harbour, helping protect mariners on the waters of Newfoundland and Labrador.

We’re glad to welcome this important addition to the area and recognize the Canadian Coast Guard crews who play such an important role in keeping our waters safe.
