Pets Matter Foster Care Society Supporters To promote the importance of pets in individuals and families lives and to assist in maintaining those relationships in times of crisis.

Pets Matter Foster Care Society (PMFCS) was started by a group of caring individuals who recognized the significance of pets in a family and the pain and loss experienced when no options exist for care in times of crisis. When families are disrupted, even temporarily, pets are frequently lost, surrendered to an animal care agency and face an unknown future. It is our aim to provide a secure place

for pets until the family is in a position to be reunited. PMFCS is dedicated to providing a temporary, safe haven for pets in times of family crisis. The crisis may be hospitalization, homelessness, leaving an abusive situation or a variety of other emergency circumstances. Often family pets are casualties in these times and PMFCS aims to place pets in reliable foster homes, private boarding homes or kennels until families can be reunited. When pets cannot be returned to their families, PMFCS will assist by placing the pet with species-specific rescue groups for re-homing. Thank you for helping to keep pets and their families together.

🐾 Meet Robbie – your future cuddle buddy!

This sweet 4-year-old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel/Poodle mix is looking for his forever home. Robbie is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, crate trained, has great potty habits, and walks nicely on a leash.

He gets along well with other dogs, loves his people, and is happiest when relaxing on a cozy lap. Robbie also loves toys—especially balls! (Although he sometimes prefers to keep them rather than return them!)

His foster describes him as a “wallflower with a million-dollar personality.” He may be a little shy at first, but once he feels safe and loved, his sweet and loyal nature truly shines.

💙 If you’re looking for a gentle companion with a big heart, Robbie may be your perfect match.

Katie’s Place has always supported us and we’re asking that you share this post.

🏡Normally I wouldn’t share an update until the very end of the month, but with the way things have been going I wanted to keep our supporters in the loop.

✨We have had the highest number of intakes in August than we did for any other month in 2025… with at least 15 more planned before the end of the month. Surrender requests have been through the roof, especially now that some other shelters have started to charge fees for people to surrender their cats. We still don’t charge a fee for this; so maybe that’s why so many are asking for our help.

✨August has been a very difficult month for us, not just due to the high number of intakes. We have sadly lost a few of our beloved residents to various ailments such as cancer and organ failure. A lot of our residents are with us for months at a time , and our volunteers grow very close to them. This makes the losses hit even harder.

✨Some of you may recall that we have been on a streak of having more cats going out than coming in for every month in 2025… While August isn’t over yet, things aren’t looking good for the famous streak. Maybe the streak ends here (Im not gonna cry) and that’s ok (sorta). We will be onto the next streak with a vengeance if it does. It’s not just about getting cats out the door, it’s about finding them the right home Not just any old home.

✨Things may seem bleak right now, but we are still 1000% committed to helping the cats that need us. Even when times are tough and the losses seem greater than the wins, our volunteers show up everyday and go above and beyond to make sure the KP cats get to experience a sense of family and belonging. We will keep fighting for the cats that nobody else wants, the oddballs and the rejects.

✨If you are considering adding a furry friend to your family, please consider adopting one of our “wierdos”. They may not be kittens, or the most conventionally cute, or the congeniality award recipients, but our volunteers have learned first hand that they have the most love to give. They just need to be given a chance. Every cat we adopt out allows us to take in another that has nowhere else to turn.

Anyways, thanks for coming to my Ted Talk. We will still have our month end update on Sept 1 as planned❤️

P.S. - We know we need a bigger board😅

Katie’s Place loves you all 🐾❤️

We want to send a huge thank you to Dr. Saeid Arefi at PoCo West Animal Hospital in Port Coquitlam. Our fostered mastiff tangled with a raccoon in the family’s backyard and it wasn’t pretty. At 7 pm no local clinics were open and Dr Arefi interrupted his bike trip to rush in and open the clinic for us. He was compassionate and caring with one very nervous BIG dog and his foster parents, all upset from the altercation.
We were braced for a very large bill considering the time and the extra effort Dr Arefi went to and were shocked at how little was charged. We actually asked if he forgot to charge for some of the services.
We aren’t grateful for the reason however are definitely grateful to have met another vet in the TriCities that we will be confident to call in the future.
It’s PoCo West Animal Hospital at 108-2748 Lougheed Highway (strip mall at Westwood and Christmas Way) in Port Coquitlam. 604-554-1255.
