Are you ready for what the rest of the world calls football?

Starting Friday, June 12, soccer fans can gather at Percy Perry Stadium in Coquitlam to watch Canada take on Bosnia-Herzegovina on the big screen. Gates open at 11 a.m. and admission is FREE!

More FIFA World Cup viewing celebrations are planned throughout the summer, including:
🇨🇦 Canada vs. Switzerland – June 24 at Blue Mountain Park
🎉 Canada Day soccer festivities – July 1 at Town Centre Park
🏟️ Grand finale viewing party – July 19 at Percy Perry Stadium

Port Coquitlam gets the action started even earlier with a public viewing of Mexico vs. South Africa on Thursday, June 11, outside Jon Baillie Arena. The city will host 35 matches between June 11 and 27, complete with concessions and a licensed area.

While Port Moody won't be hosting viewing parties this year due to costs, soccer fans throughout the Tri-Cities will still have plenty of opportunities to cheer on Team Canada and enjoy the excitement of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

🚨 STAGE 3 WATER RESTRICTIONS START JUNE 8 🚨

Metro Vancouver is moving to Stage 3 water restrictions beginning June 8 due to hot weather, extremely low snowpack levels, and ongoing construction of the Stanley Park Water Supply Tunnel.

💧 What’s NOT allowed under Stage 3:
❌ Sprinklers and soaker hoses
❌ Filling or topping up pools and hot tubs
❌ Operating decorative water features
❌ Washing cars and boats (except spot cleaning windows, lights, and mirrors)

âś… Vegetable gardens can still be watered.
âś… Restrictions do not apply to recycled water.

Metro Vancouver typically uses about 1 billion litres of water daily, but usage climbed to 1.2 billion litres per day last month despite existing restrictions. Daily demand often reaches 1.4 billion litres in June.

Adding to the concern, this year’s snowpack is less than 15% of the historical average.

Officials are asking everyone to do their part to conserve water and help protect the region’s water supply throughout the summer.

Public input should happen before council decisions are made — not after.

An opinion piece in the Tri-Cities Dispatch raises important concerns about how Coquitlam Council handles public participation compared to neighbouring cities like Port Moody, New Westminster, and Burnaby. As highlighted by Sebastian Thomas in a recent Tri-Cities Dispatch letter to the editor, Coquitlam’s current council process does little to encourage meaningful public participation before decisions are made.

The writer argues this limits transparency and reduces opportunities for residents to have meaningful input in local decision-making.

With municipal elections scheduled for October 17, the article raises an important question: should Coquitlam reconsider its council procedures to better encourage public engagement and democratic participation?

What are your thoughts?

📢 City of Coquitlam Regular Council Meeting – Planet Ice Update

The City of Coquitlam will be holding a Regular Council Meeting on:

đź“… Date: May 25, 2026
đź•– Time: 7:00 p.m.
📍 Location: Council Chambers, City Hall, 3000 Guildford Way, Coquitlam

One topic of interest is the “Planet Ice Update” presentation by the Director of Major Capital Projects. According to the City’s Major Facilities Roadmap, the construction of a new ice facility is currently identified for approximately 10–15 years from now.

With Coquitlam’s growing population and increasing demand for ice sports and recreation, what are your thoughts on waiting another decade or more for new ice sheets?

Do you think the City should move faster on planning and delivering additional ice facilities, particularly on the north side of Coquitlam? Share your thoughts by sending feedback to the City before the deadline.

đź—“ Monday, June 1, 2026

Burke Mountain Community Centre Groundbreaking

Yesterday marked an exciting milestone for the Burke Mountain neighbourhood with the groundbreaking of the new Burke Mountain Community Centre. This is a major step forward in building a complete and connected community in Northeast Coquitlam.

This project brings us closer to long-promised local amenities for residents, and supports the continued growth of Burke Mountain as a vibrant, family-oriented neighbourhood.

We also acknowledge the Provincial Government’s $10 million contribution toward the project, helping support the delivery of this important community facility and moving us closer to a more complete community.

More updates to come as construction progresses.
